Samsung Dominates Yet Again!

If you remember back in June, Xiaomi did what many called at that time, the unthinkable. For the month of June, Xiaomi sold more smartphones than any other brand including Samsung and thus claimed the title of number one smartphone maker. A lot of people said Xiaomi is the next Huawei and they are coming for Samsung for the number one spot not just for one month or two but for good.

But if you remember I mentioned that this is temporary, the only reason Xiaomi was able to sell more phones than Samsung is that Samsung's main supply chain in Vietnam was disrupted as a result they couldn't make more phones. Plus, there was this festival in China in the month of June which helped Xiaomi sell more phones. And fast forward today we have some data for Quarter 3 of this year that's July to September which suggests that Xiaomi overtaking Samsung in June was just a fluke.

According to canlys analysis, Samsung was comfortably sitting at the top with 23% market share, Apple was at second with 15% share and Xiaomi was actually at third with 14% market share. So Samsung actually has a lead of 9% over Xiaomi, which is huge when we talk about market share. So it's safe to say at the moment Samsung doesn't have to worry too much about Xiaomi. Anyway, the overall smartphone shipments declined by 6% year-over-year due to the chip shortage, and canalys says the shortage of chips won't ease until well into 2022. With that said, we heard a few weeks ago that the Galaxy S22 lineup will be wider than the S21 lineup.

One of the reasons Samsung is doing this is to accommodate the S Pen without reducing the battery, as the S Pen takes crucial space inside the phone. And now, we have Ice Universe giving us a look at how this change is supposed to look. The aspect ratio on the S22 and S22+ will be 19.5:9 which is shorter than 20:9 on the S21. So not only the S22 devices are wider than the S21, but they are shorter in height as well.

Anyway, Samsung's Unpacked Event part two is going to take place on October 20th and earlier everyone expected that Samsung would launch the Galaxy S21 FE at the event. Turns out that is not going to happen. According to Jon Prosser and Ross Young, who are some reputed leakers in the business, the Galaxy S21 FE has been delayed to January. In fact, Samsung will launch the handset on the 11th of January, which could also mean the earlier report about the Galaxy S22 possibly being delayed to February is likely true.

Now you might wonder if they are not launching the S21 FE in a couple of days, then what the hell this Unpacked Event is for? Well, we don't know for sure, but according to a new video from Samsung, it's likely for unveiling new colors for the Galaxy Z Flip 3. I know, it's absurd that they are keeping a dedicated event to launch new colors for an existing phone, but that seems to be the case here. Plus, I'm sure they will talk about some software features of the One UI 4 as well. Let me know what do you think down in the comments.
