5. Dell Gaming G3 15 3500
This gaming laptop from Dell is not too flashy in looks or especially fancy in its physical design, but don't let that understated aesthetic fool you; it's a serious gaming machine. It has a simple but compact, 15-inch system layout with a textured plastic finish on the lid and smooth plastic inside.
The G3 15 won't win any fashion awards, but it won't offend and blend into any environment effortlessly. What's more, it has a very solid overall construction. While this design is straightforward, the screen certainly has gaming in mind. Its 15.6-inch display is more than large enough for gaming and stars a full HD resolution with a 120 Hertz re...]]>

Nitro 5 in 2021
The Nitro 5 has been both Intel and Ryzen based in the past, and this trend continues this year. Acer has updated the Nitro 5 to AMD's Ryzen 5000 processors, starting with the 6 core 5600H on the low end and 8 core Ryzen 9 5900HX overclockable CPU on the high end, but there will also be an option based on Intel's new 11th gen H35 Tiger Lake processors.
The graphics starts at GTX 1650 like last year, so there are still budget friendly specs available, but it can be fully specced up to RTX 3080 graphics now.
This sounds kind of crazy to me. Before the new AMD and Nvidia parts were announced, I did see a leak online about an RTX 3080 Nitro 5, but at the time I just wrote it off as a bad fake leak as I just couldn’t see that happening, but I guess I was wrong. Seriously though what worl...]]>

There’s some keyboard flex when pushing down hard, but it felt sturdy during normal use. The lid also has some flex to it, but it’s definitely more rigid feeling than say the plastic Legion 5 or Omen 15. Software settings
All testing was done with turbo mode enabled, which basically maxes out the fan speed and applies the following GPU overclock. Unlike the 9th gen model from last year though, the processor is not undervolted by default and you can’t do it yourself either, it’s locked with the latest BIOS.
While I personally would have preferred the GTX 1660 Ti model for an easy comparison against the HP Omen 15 or Lenovo Legion 5, the 2070 Max-Q does at least have the option of dynamic boost, though I only found it to get up to 90 watts with this enabled, or 80 watts with it disabled....]]>

Build quality is fine, it’s plastic with a silver finish, nothing amazing but no sharp corners or edges.
It can’t be opened up with one finger as I guess it’s not heavy enough, but the screen goes the full 180 degrees back for sharing. The lid didn’t flex too much, but doing this revealed that it’s fairly easy for the laptop to slide around on a flat surface. This is partly due to it being on the lighter side, but the feet underneath also didn’t feel that grippy. There’s some flex to the keyboard and lid if you push hard, but it felt sturdy enough during regular use.

It’s got an all black plastic build with red accenting. There’s more flex to the keyboard and lid compared to others, but it feels fine during regular everyday use and is pretty standard for a gaming laptop at this price point.
We’re looking at under 4.8lb or 2.2kg for the laptop alone, then under 5.9lb or 2.7kg with the 135 watt power brick and cables included. It’s not too big for a 15 inch gaming laptop, a bit thick but definitely still portable overall. My Nitro has a 15.6” 1080p 60Hz display, but there’s no FreeSync available here so tearing in games was occasionally noticeable.

I’ve tested out the GTX 1650 config in 22 titles and compared it with other laptops to find out the difference.
Microsoft Flight Simulator was a no-go at high end and ultra settings, though 30 FPS or so at medium seems usable, while the low-end setting preset was able to boost this a fair bit to a whopping 50 frames per second.
This is only the second time I’ve tested death stranding, the first time was on a 2070 so quite a big difference here. In any case it was still running around 60 FPS with the default setting preset which looks pretty decent. Red Dead Redemption 2 was tested using the game’s built in benchmark tool, it’s not possible to run at ultra settings due to the 4 gig VRAM limit of the GTX 1650 graphics, otherwise even with the low setting preset we’re under 50 FPS, this is a resource heavy test. In this 2020 model, it's also very impressive. Ice cord temperatures. Well it's not literally ice-cold, but you know what I mean. It really surprised me that such a powerful 10th Gen Intel CPU, which is known to get super hot, can be cooled down so well by this machine. You know what the reason is? 135 watts charger. First I'm gonna get into the cooling and performance of this machine, and then we're gonna explore its other components together later.
I was really, really surprised at the performance of the i7-10750H chip. It pushes up to 95 watts of power, stable at around 70 watts during benchmarking. I was pretty sure that if power usage gets this high, it's definitely going to get very hot when gaming. But no, real temperature test shows that it only stays at around 70 degrees Celsius. Starting with the obvious, the Helios 300 is a 15 inch gaming laptop while the Zephyrus G14 is a smaller 14 inch, though both have a 1080p high refresh rate screen.
The G14 has the 8 core Ryzen 9 4900HS CPU, while my Helios 300 has the 6 core i7-9750H as it hasn’t been refreshed with 10th gen yet, however I’m not expecting a 10750H to make much difference to what we’ll see here. The G14 has RTX 2060 graphics while my Helios has GTX 1660 Ti, however the G14 is Max-Q and runs at 65 watts, so despite technically being a higher tier with faster VRAM, the higher wattage graphics in the Helios will probably perform better, we’ll check out some games soon.
