NTT DATA, a prominent global IT infrastructure and services company, has found that a large majority of organizations are hindered by outdated or insufficient technology when it comes to progress and innovation. This valuable information is derived from NTT DATA's first-ever Lifecycle Management Report, which highlights that legacy infrastructure is a significant obstacle to business agility according to 94% of C-suite executives. Drawing on 25 years of data-driven insights, the report delves into the challenges and opportunities in managing infrastructure lifecycles, utilizing data from over 248 million active assets in 130 countries and insights from up to 1400 senior technology decision makers.

Managing lifecycles is crucial for business prosperity, but the fast pace of modernization, various technology consumption models, and a complex supplier landscape pose challenges for many organizations in effectively maintaining their technology infrastructure. The report discloses that over two-thirds (69%) of currently active hardware will lose support by 2027. Moreover, only half of enterprises have fully aligned their technology strategy with their business goals, and a majority (71%) admit that their network assets are mostly outdated or aging.

Misaligned lifecycle management can lead to operational issues such as inadequate coverage, labor-intensive renewals, prolonged incident resolution times, security breaches, and costly compliance violations. The report provides practical recommendations for IT leaders to address these risks and optimize the value of their hardware and software. Suggestions include gaining a comprehensive view of technology assets to realign lifecycles, standardizing procurement practices in a multi-vendor environment, cutting costs while enhancing service delivery, and recognizing the sustainability advantages of improved lifecycle management.
