The goal of the Malasakit Center is to reduce and cover the hospital expenses of eligible patients by establishing a one-stop shop facility within Partner Hospitals across the country. This center serves as a hub where individuals can conveniently avail themselves of financial aid for medical expenses without having to navigate through multiple government offices.

By consolidating the financial assistance available from different government agencies, the Malasakit Center simplifies the process for patients who require financial support for their medical needs. It helps ensure that Filipinos, especially those who are less fortunate, can access quality healthcare services and receive the necessary treatment without being burdened by financial constraints.

It is important to note that the information provided here is based on the knowledge available up until September 2021, and there may have been updates or changes to the Malasakit Center program since then. It is recommended to consult official government sources or reach out to local healthcare facilities for the most up-to-date information on the program’s availability and eligibility criteria.

What is Malasakit Center?

The Malasakit Center is a program in the Philippines that provides a convenient and streamlined process for indigent and financially incapable patients to access medical and financial assistance. It was initiated by Special Assistant to President Christopher Bong Go, under the order of President Rodrigo Duterte. The first Malasakit Center was launched in Davao City on September 24, 2018.

In 2019, Senator Bong Go, who was previously the Special Assistant to the President, authorized a Senate bill to promote the establishment of Malasakit Centers across the country. This led to the passage of Republic Act No. 11463, also known as the Malasakit Center Act, on December 3, 2019. This law complements the Universal Health Care Act (Republic Act No. 11223) and requires the government to set up Malasakit Centers in the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).

The Malasakit Center Act also allows for the establishment of Malasakit Centers by the Philippine National Police (PNP) and at hospitals under the Department of Health (DOH). These centers serve as one-stop shops where eligible beneficiaries can request financial and medical assistance from various participating government agencies. The aim is to remove the arduous process of accessing medical and financial aid by minimizing paperwork and long queues.

As of November 2022, the Philippine government has established 153 Malasakit Centers across the country. These centers provide a convenient avenue for individuals in need to seek assistance with their hospital bills and access medical services without going through lengthy administrative processes.
