Artificial intelligence has done the incredible again: the Mia model was able to detect cancer symptoms in women that doctors had missed.
Researchers from the British National Health Service, using Mia, analyzed the mammography results of over 10 thousand residents of the country, after which they came to disappointing conclusions. To be more precise, they found the first signs of cancer in 11 women, reports the BBC.
According to journalists, the Mia model, a product of the Kheiron Medical company, pointed out to specialists microtumors that cannot be seen by the human eye.
In one of the patients named Barbara, the AI detected a tumor measuring 6 mm. And, according to doctors, if it weren’t for Mia, the cancer would have been detected three years later during a routine examination. And all because Barbara had no obvious symptoms of cancer.

The woman cannot believe her luck: she only needed five days of radiotherapy after the operation. According to the patient, this method became “less invasive compared to what her sisters and mother went through”.
Despite all the successes and laudatory speeches towards AI, Mia has a number of limitations - the model does not have access to patient medical records, which is why it can identify already obvious and known diseases.
She also learns by doing and does not improve herself like real doctors.
