At the very Least, until you Unplug It

No, I wouldn’t do that to anyone else.

I have two Butchers and a Bujold to read this weekend. To give you an idea of how busy I have been, I haven't yet read Peace Talks or Battle Ground.

Intel's discrete graphics chip DG1 is shipping now. (AnandTech)

To laptop makers - it's not available as an option on a card. I don't believe that laptops themselves have shipped yet, so there are no benchmarks.

Speaking of benchmarks The Ryzen 5600X is fast. (Tom's Hardware)

If this is true it's amazing. (CPUBenchmark)

The multi-threaded performance looks entirely plausible, but the single-threaded performance is a surprise. This benchmark is just one and it's possible that this benchmark performs particularly well on Zen 3. Passmark scores are very closely related to Python performance of code. It's therefore a useful benchmark.

If it's successful, AMD's 6 core processor will have 110% single-threaded performance and 94% multi-threaded speed compared to Intel's flagship 10900K. It's more efficient than an 18 core Xeon Gold 6140.

It would be a significant upgrade to my Ryzen 1700.

You must read all the fine print even if it states "Ships from and sold by Amazon".

No, I wasn’t burned - this does not apply to the 400GB model which appears to be genuine. But, you can find SanDisk microSD card models on Amazon AU. Anything smaller than 400GB comes with this bizarre disclaimer.

It is an aftermarket for a generic part.

Ubuntu 20.10 is available, with an Raspberry Pi edition. (Tom's Hardware)

I was meaning to check whether it was out and I found it. I'm going to install the new Linux VM on New Spare Laptop because the previous one was a mess.

Speaking of spare laptops, is it discovered that Old Spare Laptop has the same problem with its battery as New Spare Laptop.

With Old Spare Laptop there's also a loose connection which coupled with the failing battery means that it's not reliable even when plugged in. However, it turns out that the loose connection is in the charger cable, not the laptop. I remembered that I had another charger with the same plug, swapped themand it worked.

At least until you unplug it, whereupon it dies instantly.

In Hololive news Gawr Gura reached 1 million subscribers and Mori Calliope hit 500k during the same Minecraft collab stream (which I was able to catch live) and Calliope was the number one iTunes album in the world on the same day, Coco is back to insult her fans, and HololiveCN is being, um, granted independence.

The HoloCN girls are being given the full rights to their characters, so they can become independent. China is too dangerous for Cover to want to deal with in the present, especially given the runaway success of HoloEN.

Anemoia is the feeling of nostalgia for things you haven't had the pleasure of experiencing. (Wiktionary)

Not to be confused with Amemoia which is how Gura feels about Watson.

Huawei has announced their Mate 40 series powered by the new Kirin 9000. (AnandTech)

The main feature in the Kirin 9000 is a huge Mali G78MP24. My Mediapad M3 sports the Kirin 9000 with the Mali T880MP4, which is six times faster than the previous clock speed and architectural improvements.

To buy a Mate 40 would be insane. It's not cheap, doesn't include Google services, and the CPU built on TSMC's brand new 5nm process - has already been discontinued due to US sanctions on Huawei.
