Resilience, Confidence, Perseverance, Courage – The Mindset Of A Navy SEAL
3 min read

There is no denying that the Navy SEALs are one of the most skillful and elite warriors on this planet, with their impeccable discipline, unrivaled bravery, and determination of someone who can take over the world.

Let’s delve deep into the minds of the Navy SEALs and extract some interesting learnings we can adapt to our daily lives.

Resilience

David Goggins, an ex-Navy SEAL and motivational speaker, sums up the unbreakable mindset required of these soldiers.

He entails: “When your mind is telling you you’re done, you’re really only 40 percent done.”

This mindset is contrary to people who often find themselves disheartened by life’s difficulties. The SEAL mindset is just different. They are expected to push the boundaries of what their mind is capable of.

This is necessary when they are participating in armed combat.

Get this; there is an exercise called “drown-proofing,” and yes, it is as scary as it sounds. Trainees have their legs and hands tied together. Then, the trainers toss the SEALs into a 9-foot-deep swimming pool to perform high-intensity training maneuvers.

Confidence

Confidence is key. When you are a Navy SEAL, you need to make crucial decisions in a matter of seconds. You need to be assertive, for your choices will very well determine if you or your team will make it out alive in armed combat.

This level of confidence isn’t bred by watching a motivational video; in fact, SEALs are taught to stop looking for motivation entirely because it is a fleeting construct—practice discipline instead of longevity.

Perseverance

The majority of a SEAL’s tenure is spent training rather than being present in armed combat.

The truth is, in order to persevere, one must make the necessary arrangements to cut back on delay. One cannot simply barge into a field of combat without possessing the necessary tools to ensure survival.

SEALs are taught to “prepare to prepare!”

They are expected to sustain their performance, mentally and physically, despite the severity of the conditions.

Courage

SEALs are expected to be leaders who can transform their fear into focus, drive, and determination. Most people nowadays are daunted by high-pressure scenarios, for they have stopped practicing the art of self-improvement.

Inherently, everyone is human. Even SEALs have their moments of fear. The only difference is they know how to channel that fear, transforming it to energize themselves before their performance and ensure firm commitment.

The above mentioned are all the various components that make a SEAL who they are.

In Robert B. Marcus’ book, The Far Side of Silence, ex-Navy SEAL Alexander Gray is a man who embodies these components. However, he is about to face his biggest challenge yet. He must outwit and derail the forces working against the President, bringing the traitors to justice.

Will Alexander succeed in his pursuit?

Find out in Robert B. Marcus Jr.’s action-packed read, The Far Side of Silence, now available on Amazon.
