What are a Capacitor and an Inductor?

What is an Inductor? 

An inductor is a coil of wire around a core, usually made of metal or ferrite, which will store or release energy when current flows through it. A capacitor is a device for storing electric charge in the form of electrostatic fields between two conductors. They can be used in many different ways and they are both essential to our modern world!

What is a Capacitor?

 A capacitor is a device for storing electric charge in the form of electrostatic fields between two conductors. The value of capacitance is measured in the unit of a farad. The capacitor's value is a product of charge and voltage, but as with all electrical components, it doesn't store or release charge itself - it stores/releases energy as current flows through the component from one plate to another.

Uses of Inductors and Capacitors

When will you use an inductor?

Inductors are used in radios and televisions, while capacitors can help with providing a cleaner power supply for electronic devices by reducing the amount of noise from the power grid. Inductors are also found inside electrical transformers, where they are used to reduce the voltage of alternating current before it enters homes and businesses.

Inductors allow alternating currents to pass through them without resistance but cause direct currents to be resisted. Sometimes it is useful for low-frequency signals to have this property - such as in audio amplifiers and blocking oscillators! Some inductance must be provided by other components such as capacitors or chokes if these properties are required.  Aside from these two main uses, capacitors are found everywhere in modern technology; even though it may not be obvious! They can be used in timing circuits (for example, when computers wait for input) when they act like another resistor when current is flowing through it, and in some cases when you can use them as a battery to power electronic devices - such as in watches!

Difference between Capacitor and Inductor

The first difference between an inductor and a capacitor is that the inductor will only store energy when current flows through it, whereas the capacitor will store energy regardless of whether the current is flowing or not. The second major difference between them is how they operate at different voltages. An inductor only increases in voltage as it stores more energy, whereas a capacitor can have a higher starting voltage depending on how much charge it has stored up.

The Importance of Each in Our Modern World 

Both inductors and capacitors are essential to the modern world. Capacitors can help with providing a cleaner power supply for electronic devices by reducing the amount of noise from the power grid. While inductors are used in radios and televisions, capacitors play a vital role in many other areas as well.
