How Do Two Different Wood Pellet Mills Work: Ring Die Pellet Machine and Flat Die Pellet Machine?

People often get confused between grinding machines and pellet mills but there is a huge difference between both machines, grinding help in making larger pieces into smaller pieces whereas a pellet is used to produce pellets from powdered material. They both totally work differently but somehow confuse the people out there. So today in this blog we are going to talk about pellet mills.

As we have discussed in the above paragraph, pellet mills blend the small powdery substances to make a large homogenous product. But there are two different types of pellet mills, ring die pellet mills and flat die pellet mills. They both produce the same thing but with different working. As ring die pellet machines have high capacity and large volume but at the same time flat die pellet mill has small volume and lower capacity because it is portable and because it has lower capacity and small volume cost way lesser than ring die pellet mills. 

How do two different types of wood pellet mills work? 

Let’s discuss the working of the two types of pellet mills to give you a deeper and clearer view of how they have different functionality.

Working of Flat Die Pellet Mill:

• When you put raw material in the flat die pellet machine through the hopper, and when they fall into the pellet they spread under the function of a roller, and when you are done with the hopper part. You have to start the pellet machine by switching on the electric motor that will bring along the main shaft through the gearbox. 

• The press rotating creates a strong pressure and presses the raw material into the pellet hole. The raw material gets molded in these holes. When the raw material is squeezed out it comes out in the shape of a cylinder. 

• The roller and die create a strong friction between them and it heats up a raw material to a certain temperature, where the material gets softened up and increases the adhesive force of the material. 

• The hole size indicates the diameters of the flat die and the slicer indicates the length of the flat die. The slicers under the flat die cut the material into pieces and the length of the piece can be adjusted by changing the position of a slicer. 

• After being cut by the slicer the final product (pellet) falls down on the pellet trowing tray. 

Working of Ring Die Pellet Mill: 

• The ring die pellet mill is a automated machine it is directly connected to the motor and the motor is connected to the gearbox through the shaft coupling the main shaft is brought by the gearbox and rollers are brought along with the main shaft.  And then roller starts to rotate inside the ring die. 

• When you put the raw material into the ring die pellet mill through the hopper, they directly go to the conditioner, where the raw material is mixed with vapor and butter. The conditioning aims directly to increase the adhesive force and forming rate as well. 

• Then the material which is being formed till now is transmitted to the pelletizing cabinet. The roller presses the raw material in the holes present in the ring die. The high pressure and high temperature that has been created inside causes physical as well as chemical changes to the raw material. 

• Then the raw material in the shape of cylindrical sticks will be thrown out of the machine. The length of the stick depends on the slicer, they will grow until being cut by the use of a slicer. Then the final product( pellets) falls down and comes out with the help of an outlet.
