What is L-Glutamine?

L-Glutamine ( L-Glutamine ) is an amino acid and a building block of proteins. Amino acids and proteins have many important roles in our bodies. Specifically, glutamine aids in the transport of carbon and nitrogen in the body (for cell division and growth) and plays a role in nerve function, gut function, and boosting the immune system.

Glutamine is produced by the body in muscle tissue and is therefore considered "non-essential," meaning we don't have to rely solely on getting it from our diet. However, when our body is under (metabolic) stress, providing glutamine on its own may not be enough to meet the body's needs. Therefore, when the body uses glutamine in large quantities, we need glutamine other than the body's own production.

L-glutamine is produced by our muscles, is commonly found in our diets, and it is very clear that glutamine is needed when the body recovers from exercise and serious illness.

The role of glutamine

quick recovery

Research shows that athletes can benefit from supplementing with L-glutamine to reduce muscle soreness and speed up recovery time.

This amino acid plays a key role in controlling the uptake of glucose (energy) by muscles after exercise and can help prepare us for the next workout and restore energy stores. When the body's muscles have optimal glucose reserves, we can perform better during exercise and can delay the feeling of fatigue in the body.

Studies have shown that long-term hard training reduces blood glutamine levels, so if you have a habit of going to the gym for a long time, glutamine is an ideal post-workout fitness supplement.

Gain fat-free mass and build strength

When combined with creatine , L-Glutamine supplementation increases the body's stamina and strength, thereby increasing Lean Body Mass. While L-glutamine supplementation may be more effective for those whose diets are low in glutamine, research has shown that glutamine has other possible benefits, such as:

Reduce physical loss and reduce muscle soreness

reduce fatigue

Build endurance and exercise longer

boost immunity

Additionally, athletes who follow a rigorous training program often have a weakened immune system due to the constant stress that high-intensity exercise puts on the body. While L-glutamine has protective effects on cells in our immune system , it is often used to help repair the immune system of critically ill patients.

Studies have shown that L-glutamine plays a role in the manufacture of immune cells (in sufficient quantities to fight bacteria), as well as in intestinal function, as a physical barrier against infection. So in conclusion, supplementing with L-glutamine may also be good for your immune system.
