2 min read

Korchinski, a defenceman who plays with the Western Hockey League’s Seattle Thunderbirds, was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks with the seventh overall pick in Thursday’s NHL draft.

Korchinski collected four goals, 61 assists, 65 points and 40 penalty minutes in 67 games with Seattle this past season, and added six goals and 13 assists in 25 playoff contests.

The former member of the AAA Saskatoon Contacts shot up NHL draft lists this past season, while drawing attention with his skating and offensive prowess.

Korchinski was the first WHL player chosen, one of six taken in the opening round, and one of 28 in all after the draft wrapped up Friday.

Saskatoon Blades’ forward Brandon Lisowsky was chosen in the seventh round, 218th overall on Friday. That selection came after Lisowsky notched 33 goals, 25 assists and 58 points in 68 games with the Blades.

Lisowsky was fourth among rookie goal-scorers this past season.
