JavaScript-retrospective: the Tech Highlights of 2019

What was going on in the world of JavaScript development in the year 2019? Four experts comment on the JavaScript Highlights from the year 2019 and tell us, what new Tools have you been in 2019 particularly good services.

What was going on in the world of JavaScript development in the year 2019? We asked four experts to share their personal Tops and Flops of the technology of the year 2019. Manfred Steyer, Peter Kröner, Tobias Struckmeier and Golo Roden chat secrets from your Developer and give an Outlook to the year 2020.

What was your Tech Highlights of 2019?

the

For me, Angular Ivy was definitely the Highlight. Especially when you look at all the internals, it becomes clear what Potential opens up because. It goes far beyond optimized Bundles and will be the basis for many innovations in the Angular environment. I reported, among other things, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWQeMD38n2k

This has nothing to do with code to write, but I have carved this year, especially with the cameras of modern Smartphones from the socks.

My Highlights: the emergence of concepts from the functional programming and the more widespread use of reactive programming thanks to RxJS. Many thanks are due to Jan-Niklas Wortmann, and Michael Hladky for your use, the Know-to wear-how to the masses. In addition, Cypress has made for me is the E2E Testing of a torment to a fun factor.

The greatest impression has left on me, the „photo“ the black hole in the galaxy Messier 87, which was published in April 2019. Many criticize that the image is blurred and only one of infinitely many possible interpretations of performing – but I think the astronomical and technological power behind it is very admirable. I'm excited to see what Surprises the world of space research, for us, carries with it in the next few years.

In terms of Web - and Cloud-world was the biggest Highlight for me is the introduction of the GitHub Actions, a in GitHub seamlessly integrated CI/CD Pipeline. We have now migrated all our Build processes from CircleCI to GitHub Actions and are very satisfied with the result. Also Dependabot, which since 2019 also to GitHub, and Manage the versioning of dependencies is automated, it has to be mentioned positively in this respect.

In the course of the conversion to GitHub Actions, and the introduction of Dependabot we also have all of the Release processes on semantic-release changed, which automatically applies the concept of Semantic Versioning to Generate new versions: to add a Repository Commits, it will automatically create a new Version of the Software, whose version number is determined by the nature of the Changes. The power to Manage versions very easy and enjoyable.

What is the JavaScript Tool you've discovered in this year for you?

the

I find the library always somethin ' right. It simplifies the use of Immutables is immense. Mutated first in the State on a Proxy. Thereafter, these Changes will be played on "immutable way" automatically. In combination with the new Creators of NGRX this is a really nice Option. Who wants to guess, these two worlds marry, in ngrx-etc a good solution. This has not really a lot of Downloads, but comes from the same Person, which has many of the Creators in NGRX implemented.

I've discovered Preact for me! Preact is almost 1:1 API React-compatible, weighs only 3 kilobytes. So far, I had placed the Tool under „non-serious Gimmick“ but after we have, in our Podcast, one of the Preact-makers interviewed, and I've learned, what can Preact all, anyone who uses Preact everything, and with what extreme Performance focus, the developers are working on Preact, has changed my assessment thoroughly. In a web development world, the efficiency is less than nothing of value, and each HTML page over 9000 MB of JavaScript brings to the table, it is very refreshing.

RxJS has me on a new way of thinking when programming, attention, I for some complex cases as the best architecture approach to see.

is very clear TypeScript. After we have made roughly six and a half years, for various reasons, a large bow to TypeScript, we have evaluated it in the summer of 2019, the new – and found it to be good. TypeScript is helping a lot to avoid mistakes or to find them much earlier, than it would be without the TypeScript is possible. The productivity in comparison with the development with pure JavaScript needs to be increased, but you also have to watch out, the Compiler doesn't as all-knowing view. Also TypeScript fall carries with it a number of pitfalls and has unsightly features that you should know.

In the Frontend area have impressed me to the next.js and JSS very. Next.js is an All-in-One Framework for building React applications without having the underlying infrastructure, for example, for client - and server-side Rendering, care. That Next.js support of TypeScript, was, of course, especially handy. The JSS allows you to Write CSS Code in JavaScript, which is especially React very helpful: JSS is the missing component to a web application completely in JavaScript or TypeScript to write.

in addition, we have set us apart for the first time, to a greater extent with GraphQL. As a pure query language and a replacement for the REST I think is overrated GraphQL as before, but in conjunction with CQRS, it can play to its Strengths very well. The Mutation of GraphQL on the Commands map, Queries are Queries, and the Subscriptions serve the Subscribing to Domain Events. Who deals with GraphQL, should therefore, urgently CQRS as an architectural pattern – and Vice versa. The next Version of our CQRS-framework, wolkenkit is, therefore, also support for GraphQL included.
