Nuno Mendes to not appear in upcoming Portugal FIFA World Cup fixtures after sustaining a muscle injury in their left thigh. Portugal has reached knockouts.

Portugal will move on in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 without their defender, Nuno Mendes. Guerreiro is likely to continue as an alternate from now. Mendes remained unavailable in the winning opener against Ghana. He appeared in the second fixture against Uruguay; however, he was substituted by Guerreiro after he sustained an injury during the match.

Portugal went on to win a consecutive FIFA World Cup 2022 group stage fixture but lost its defender in the process.

The first event went down the drain for him due to muscular fatigue. The reason for the substitution was unknown to the fans until Santos attended a media conference. The Portuguese coach shared that he was substituted after he sustained a muscle injury in the left thigh. Santos said that a definite timeline could not be estimated when asked about recovery.

Fans can still expect to see their favorite defender after late January provided medical treatment does not delay his appearance further.

Mendes will no longer appear in the following FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 fixtures of Portugal. He will stay with the team through the Qatar camp. Santos stated that it was Mende's wish to be with the team for the remainder of the event, and the Federation has allowed him to stay with the team.

This reflects the team's spirit and unity, and Santos was heard concluding his statement. The Portuguese coach will likely continue with Guerreiro as a replacement in the final group-stage match against South Korea.

South Korea and Portugal will fight for the win on December 02, 2022, at 8:30 pm IST at Education City Stadium. As per the TimesOfCasino news publication, The pressure is more on South Korea as Portugal has already qualified for the Round of 16. South Korea needs to win over Portugal and hope Uruguay defeats Ghana with a small goal difference.

Portugal is at the top of the Group H table with 6 points to their name. The side is yet to lose in the international tournament. On the other hand, South Korea has gotten closest to winning a fixture only by landing a goalless draw against Uruguay on November 24, 2022.

The opener of Portugal against Ghana was the one with high intensity in the second half. A total of 5 goals were scored within 45 minutes after Cristiano Ronaldo converted the penalty kick into a score in the 65th minute. Portugal went on the field with a 4-3-3 formation, later changing it to 4-1-2-1-2 when playing with Uruguay. Mendes was in the defensive stretch while Fernandes scored a double in the 54th minute and 90+3rd minute.

South Korea may want fresh air as Portugal is looking to advance with a clean sheet. Mendes will now be on the field, but the substitute is equally competitive and confident.
