For most women and some men, eyebrows play an integral part in their identity and appearance. Therefore, it isn’t uncommon to find people investing time and money into waxing, threading, plucking, and filling their eyebrows. While these techniques do help, they’re more of a temporary fix.

So, what to do if you want results to stay for the long-run? Fortunately, microblading is a semi-permanent and low-maintenance procedure that can seriously help people who don’t want to go through the everyday hassle of applying makeup to make their brows look gorgeous.

With rave reviews floating on the internet, it’s natural to wonder whether microblading brows is worth a try. But before booking an appointment with a tattoo artist, here are a few things that must be kept in mind to accurately assess whether this cosmetic treatment is right for you.

1. The technique is similar to a traditional tattoo with some differences

Like a traditional tattoo, small needles are used to deposit pigment into the skin during the microblading appointment. However, microblading uses the manual tattoo technique to create an illusion of natural hair.

The primary difference between a traditional tattoo and a cosmetic tattoo is the depth at which the pigment is placed underneath the skin. Because the pigment doesn’t penetrate the skin as deep as a regular tattoo, microblading tattoos will completely fade over time.

2. Microblading is a two-part process.

The initial microblading appointment usually lasts about two to two-and-a-half hours, from beginning to end. It usually starts with a discussion regarding expectations and goals, and once that is understood, the technician will map the facial features and overall structure. When that is done, the microblading process will begin, lasting for about 45 minutes to an hour.

Following the procedure, clients are asked to follow certain precautionary measures to promote healing. After about six to eight weeks, another appointment is necessary to make adjustments, in terms of density and colour, to the eyebrows. The second session will last for about one to one-and-a-half hours.

3. The process may cause a little bit of discomfort and pain.

Some people experience little to no discomfort during the treatment, but the eyebrows look mildly swollen and red after the appointment. Most tattoo artists apply a topical numbing cream so that people experience very little pain from their brow feathering appointment. However, people who have a low tolerance for pain should speak to their tattoo artist before the procedure to manage pain in some other way.

4. Microblading isn’t right for everyone.

Not everybody qualifies for a microblading procedure, so it’s important to speak to a certified tattoo artist to learn whether you’re a good candidate. For instance, pregnant and nursing women cannot undergo this treatment. Similarly, people undergoing chemotherapy don’t make good microblading candidates because of the increased risk of infection. People taking certain medications, such as blood thinners, need to talk to their doctor before they can undergo a microblading procedure.

5. The results will be affected by skin type.

Microblading results are different on different skin types, so it’s crucial to do necessary research to pick out a technique that’s right for you. People with dry skin have the best results because they can retain the pigment for a longer duration. On the contrary, people with oily skin get results that are less crisp and a little softer, possibly because of excess oil production.

6. Microblading won’t affect natural hair growth.

There is a myth that undergoing microblading can negatively impact natural hair growth, and it isn’t true. When done by an experienced technician, microblading will have zero effect on the natural eyebrow hair. In some cases, it can stimulate hair growth, which is excellent news for those who would like to achieve a fuller look.

7. After-care instructions must be carefully followed for the best results.

There are certain instructions that must be followed after the procedure to encourage healing. It’s crucial to avoid working out because it can trigger excessive sweating. Submerging the entire face in water or applying cosmetic products to the eyebrows must be discouraged as well. Though AHAs and retinol are wonderful skincare products, it’s best to stay away from them.

Almost all tattoo artists will also ask their clients to stay away from tanning beds and direct sunlight. So, whenever stepping outside, apply lots of. sunscreen generously over the face.

8. The healing period lasts for about a month.

During the first couple of days, the pigment will be darker, sharper, and bolder. It may look odd, but by the fourth or fifth day, the eyebrows will start flaking or scabbing. The process will go on for about a month, so it’s important not to pick the scabs or flakes during this time to avoid scarring.

Wrapping Up

Whether you go for ombre brows or feather touch eyebrows, it’s essential to be cautious while finalising an aesthetician. The facility and technician you choose for the microblading appointment can make or break the final look. Thus, it’s important to pay attention to credentials and hygiene before making an appointment. Getting fuller, darker, and shapely eyebrows can be easy, provided a qualified and experienced tattoo artist is holding the needle.
