At Bellator 277, Pitbull recaptured his 145-pound title by defeating A.J. McKee (the guy who defeated him months previously) to regain his position as the 145-pound division's leader.

While many anticipated a trilogy bout against "Mercenary," that was not in the cards. Adam Borics receives the nod and now has the opportunity to claim MMA gold for the first time under the Bellator banner.

Borics has won four consecutive matches, including a strong victory over Mads Burnell that propelled him into the final bout.

Borics is 9-1 after his promotion, with his lone career loss coming against Darrion Caldwell. Other than this setback, Borics' performance has been remarkable.

Borics has demonstrated a versatile arsenal, having won seven bouts by decision, four by knockout, and six by submission. And Pitbull is the same way; he can take the fight anywhere and win by knocking you out, twisting you into a pretzel, or grinding you out for 15 to 25 minutes.

Borics has significant victories over Aaron Pico and Pat Curran, but Pitbull is a whole other beast, and now that he has the belt back, he will fight like hell to keep it.

Pitbull has the advantage in terms of power if this battle stays on the feet, but Borics is a skilled striker with superb technique. But if he engages in an all-out brawl, it will not go well for him. Pitbull gets a tiny edge if the ball lands on the ground.

In spite of the fact that Borics is excellent in every aspect, Pitbull is marginally superior, and while he won't finish Borics, he will perform enough to gain a unanimous decision.

Total (+118): McKee makes his lightweight debut against Spike Carlyle, who has imported the same unorthodox approach from the UFC to the Bellator cage.

It is difficult to envision McKee losing until he is taken off guard by a brilliant shot, as he thrives on this style. Mamedov rebounded from an unexpected split decision loss to Benson Henderson with a victory in less than two minutes.

Nick Browne is a talented opponent, but he has never faced or defeated an opponent of Mamedov's caliber. Murtazaliev is a dangerous selection who lost his most recent battle despite being a strong favorite.

Murtazaliev has an opponent he should be able to handle in Khadzhimurat Bestaev to get back on the winning track.

McKee did not receive either of the two matches he desired, a trilogy bout with Patricio Pitbull or a Lightweight title bout with Patricky Pitbull.

If he wins his first fight at 155 pounds, he will be eligible for a shot at the championship. Despite the fact that this will be his debut fight in the division and he hasn't fought much in this weight class, he has a strong case given his resume and rivalry with the Pitbull brothers.

But first, he must defeat a grizzled veteran who is unwilling to serve as anyone's stepping stone. Carlyle has won five consecutive bouts, but only one has been under the Bellator banner. He has UFC experience, but with a 1-2 record in three bouts inside the Octagon.

Unfortunately for "The Alpha Ginger," he will be facing one of the best fighters in the promotion, who is out for redemption after suffering his first loss.

McKee is one of the most gifted individuals in mixed martial arts, and he does nearly everything correctly. Carlyle will need to be at his best to complete the task, but even then, McKee will be superior.

He intends to demonstrate that he is deserving of a shot at the 155-pound championship by virtue of his superior speed and skill.

On Saturday night, Bellator MMA offers one of its best shows of the year. Bellator 286 took place at Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, California, with a featherweight title bout between champion Patricio "Pitbull" Freire and challenger Adam Borics serving as the main event.

Pitbull (33-5) begins his third stint as featherweight champion of Bellator. After avenging his devastating loss to AJ McKee in a rematch, Pitbull faces a difficult championship defense in one of the promotion's most competitive divisions.

In dozens of battles, Pitbull's victories have been split about evenly between knockout, submission, and decision. The champion has voiced a desire to sweep out the featherweight class before sliding down to the bantamweight division in pursuit of a third divisional title.

"He is a talented fellow. He has the most victories within this category "Pitbull noted at media day. "Perhaps it will resemble a kickboxing battle. I will attempt to defeat him if the occasion arises. If I do not possess this, I will engage in a conflict with him. Nobody can escape me from that location.

"The most essential thing for me is to win Saturday night's match and retain the championship belt with the Pitbull brothers. The same as featherweight."

Pico would be the poster child for "How to Improve After Every Fight" if there were such a thing. Just when you believe he cannot improve any further, he does.

And he has done so repeatedly, in fight after fight. His wrestling is already exceptional, and he can take on virtually anyone weighing 145 pounds whenever he desires.

However, his striking attack has vastly improved with each encounter. Pico is very precise and precise with his technique, which is what makes him so entertaining to watch.

He reminds me of a peak Cain Velaquez in that no movement is wasted and everything is performed with intent. Pico is now on a six-fight winning streak, is ranked third at 145 pounds, and a victory here would secure a crack at the title against the winner of Pitbull vs. Borics.

Currently ranked seventh, Kennedy intends to counter Pico's momentum by increasing his own. Kennedy most recently defeated Emmanuel Sanchez in a spectacular performance at Bellator 272 and is 2-1 with the MMA promotion owned by Viacom.

Kennedy has UFC experience, having a 3-1 record before abruptly leaving the promotion after losing to the current 145-pound champion, Alexander Volkanovski.

However, despite Kennedy's considerable experience, there is just no way to account for Pico's wrestling unless you can equal it...and very few can.

Pico is able to (and will) soften up Kennedy on the feet and dominate him in the clinch. For Pico to get a shot in the championship, he will likely record another dominant victory.

This is the type of card that should excite MMA fans and attract the attention of sports bettors. In light of this, let's examine our picks for the greatest wagers on the Bellator 286 program.

Patricio Pitbull (-150) vs. Adam Borics: To be honest, this statement does not make sense. Borics is an excellent fighter, however his record of 18-1 does not compare to that of Pitbull.

In his most recent bout, Borics won a shot at the championship by battling Mads Burnell for five rounds. Borics took some extremely clean strokes from Burnell despite the fact that the scorecards were wide. Burnell only a single knockout in his career, thus it was relatively safe for Borics to go toe-to-toe with him.

Pitbull is a really unique case. Pitbull is a truly balanced fighter, with 11 knockout victories, 12 submission victories, and 10 decision victories. Borics lacks the strength to threaten Pitbull, who has a single TKO loss on his record due to an injury, and grappling is unlikely to be his winning strategy.

Borics possesses exceptional cardio, and he may be able to put on such a pace that it leaves Pitbull tired in the final rounds. However, such a tempo involves engaging directly and often, and every moment of contact poses a threat to Borics.

Choose the fighter who has proven himself against the top Bellator fighters at an attractive price.

Borics (18-1) has emerged as one of Bellator's most potential competitors. Decision victories over Mads Burnell and Jeremy Kennedy attest to his endurance, while a flying knee TKO of Aaron Pico indicates the Hungarian's flair.

There is a respectable amount of confidence in Borics into a fight against the vastly more decorated Pitbull. Borics' self-assurance that he is the division's future is validated by the tight betting lines.

"My side is unique because I am still 29 years old and continue to improve daily. He is 35 years old, yet he has changed significantly. Earlier in his career, he was more reckless and active. However, he fights smarter today "Borics noted at media day.

Max Rohskopf (-120) versus Mike Hamel: Rohskopf received a tough break in the UFC, making his Octagon debut with less than a week's notice and retiring in his corner after the second round.

Despite the fact that UFC president Dana White defended Rohskopf after the bout, the promotion terminated his contract. He went through high school and college as a wrestler, and no one becomes a well regarded wrestler at a big university if they lack tenacity.

After a break, Rohskopf won two bouts for Cage Warriors and is currently making his debut for Bellator. Hamel's record is 9-5, however one of his defeats was by disqualification. He also lost by decision to Usman Nurmagomedov and Adam Borics, with the Borics defeat being a split decision.

Hamel is not an easy opponent to defeat, but Rohskopf may defeat him if he is in peak mental and physical condition.

After being eliminated from the World Bantamweight Grand Prix, Barzola and Archuleta will now engage in what should be a compelling and competitive bout.

Archuleta was knocked out in the first round of an interim title battle by Raufeon Stots, earning him his second consecutive loss, the first coming against division champion Sergio Pettis.

Magomed Magomedv choked down Barzola, crushing his hopes for a million-dollar payout and a world championship bout. Even while he will not receive any of those trophies with a victory over Archuleta, it will still be a good addition to his belt.

In order to accomplish this, he will have to engage in a close-quarters battle, which will need him to suffocate Archuleta with continuous pressure to prevent him from launching his offensive.

Barzola has 11 UFC bouts under his belt and is capable of competing with the best in the 145- and 135-pound weight classes. But, Archuleta is no slouch.

During his time with Bellator, he has faced the greatest, including the aforementioned Patricio Pitbull and Sergio Pettis. However, "The Spaniard" was able to earn the vacant 135-pound title by defeating Patchy Mix. During his time with the promotion, "The Spaniard" was unable to secure a signature victory against a major name.

In the major battles against Pitbull, Pettis, and most recently, Stots, he fell just short. This is a difficult pick since both men are so brilliant, well-rounded, and absolute beasts when the action begins. I'm undecided, but I envision Archuleta doing just enough to win over the judges.

In the co-main event, McKee will make his lightweight debut against UFC veteran Spike Carlyle. This is a new beginning for McKee, who has repeatedly stated a desire to increase his weight to 155 pounds due to the difficulty of the featherweight cut. With the exception of a potential trilogy bout versus Pitbull, it appears that lightweight will remain McKee's home for the foreseeable future.

Carlyle, a former featherweight, responded well to his UFC release by accumulating five consecutive finishes. Recently, he choked out Dan Moret and Koji Takeda in the Bellator and RIZIN promotions, respectively.

"I admire his initiative in stepping up to the plate. You are aware that Pitbulls do not desire this smoke. They should be afraid of the last name McKee, I believe "McKee stated to CBS Sports.

"He's basically a go-getter. He will proceed forward and throw. I am also aware that he has a slow start... I'm looking forward to resuming my former self and making some statements.

"I remain the champion. What it is, it is. The arena is available to me. I believe that following the co-main, everyone will depart. They will battle for their own interests. Even if there are no harsh feelings, it's cool.

What it is, it is. Just be a guy, [Pitbull], and if you ever decide to be a man, we'll fight... I am one hundred percent focused on Spike, which is crucial."

Tomorrow night (Saturday, October 1, 2022) in Long Beach, California, Bellator MMA returns for its second event in two weeks with Bellator 286, featuring a Featherweight title fight between division kingpin Patricio Pitbull defending his title against the No. 2-ranked contender in the stacked division, Adam Borics.

A.J. Mckee will compete against Spike Carlyle at Lightweight for the first time, and Aaron Pico will fight Jeremy Kennedy in a 145-pound bout.

In addition, one of the most highly anticipated prospects in MMA history, Aaron Pico, has returned and is inching closer to a title chance. The 26-year-old has won six consecutive matches, with five of them ending in a knockout.

Jeremy Kennedy, a UFC veteran with a 2-1 record under the Bellator banner and a victory over Emmanuel Sanchez in December 2021, will be his hardest opponent to date.

Patricio Pitbull will defend his featherweight title against top rival Adam Borics in the main event. Former featherweight champion AJ McKee will also be competing, facing UFC veteran Spike Carlyle in a three-round contest at lightweight.

Bantamweight veterans Juan Archuleta and Enrique Barzola square off in the opening bout of the main show. Achuleta, the former champion at 135 pounds, has suffered two consecutive losses since claiming the gold.

In April, he suffered a brutal TKO loss against Raufeon Stots. Barzola, on the other hand, is coming off a submission loss against Magomed Magomedov. The defeat ended a three-fight winning streak.

Patricio Pitbull vs. Adam Borics: Pitbull is still the featherweight champion. Pitbull's defeat over McKee, who was viewed as MMA's next shining star, served as a reminder that he is not going anywhere. He can win a fight by any means and has demonstrated the resilience to overcome hardship.

Very few athletes in the sport are able to consistently reinvent themselves at a high level. The champion's ability to command the terms of the fight should propel him to victory.

His keys to victory are working on the inside, against the fence, and on the ground. Borics would do well to remain on the perimeter and maximize his height and reach advantages of five inches.

It is worrying that Borics' background in striking has not converted into finishes at the upper levels of the featherweight class in Bellator. Borics' performances against Burnell and Kennedy — decisive but occasionally overly competitive — are convincing enough to envisage a chess match with Pitbull, but not enough to win. Scorecards should benefit the champion in order for him to maintain his championship.

After being cut from the UFC, the former champion is facing an athlete who has been moving between organizations and rebuilding his career. McKee represents a significant step up in competitiveness, since none of these fighters have been elite.

The money line returns $23 every $100 wagered on its own, but the right parlay should be profitable. Khalid Murtazaliev -350 and Gibson Clark -550 are the runners-up.

This man's only defeat occurred in a UFC bout scheduled on short notice. Since his last loss two years ago, he has grown as a grappler, integrating more standing and ground strikes in his last two victories at Cage Warriors.

Max, a D1 wrestler, is prepared to demonstrate a combination of only and new talents against a ground-attack-vulnerable opponent.

Pitbull typically struggles against lanky opponents like as Benson Henderson. Borics is the same type of long athlete as Freire and should defeat him. Bet the Borics Money line or the Borics by points at +285 odds.

He has won his last four fights by unanimous decision, demonstrating that he is becoming an experienced fighter. Fans of Freire should choose the -120 Over 4.5 Rounds wager.

The previous unbeaten champion steps up to lightweight to meet Carlyle, a CW and RIZIN fighter. Spike was removed from the UFC after a record of 1-2 and two consecutive losses.

He is a phenomenal fighter with abilities in all areas of combat. Nonetheless, he will lose to the clever McKee.

The McKee style is difficult to train for, and since losing to Bill Algeo, Carlyle has not met an opponent of comparable ability. Bet McKee to win by decision or the Over 1 12 Rounds proposition. Spike has never been completed, and I do not believe McKee will take any significant chances.

Against Jeremy Kennedy, Pico hopes to maintain his six-bout winning streak, all of which have resulted in knockouts. Kennedy is a skilled fighter, with a UFC record of 3-1 and a PFL record of 2-2-1. In his 20-fight career, he has a 40% finishing rate, and his losses include Volkanovski and Borics.

Whatever it is, A.J. McKee's lightweight debut occurs Saturday night in his hometown of Long Beach, following his sole professional MMA defeat. For his father, a coach of a lifetime, it is everything.

"He is living the life of my dreams. He is doing what I would have hoped to accomplish. But if I'm not doing it, there is nothing greater than watching my Long Beach-born son. Memorial Hospital,"

Antonio McKee said. "You are aware that he has labored on that turf. Now he is returning, and he is returning to be supported by his city. Thanks to Bellator for making that possible."

McKee (18-1) believes he should still be undefeated after that night in San Jose and retains this position to this day. According to the fight statistics, he landed 40 more total blows and scored four takedowns to Pitbull's zero.

McKee claims that within two weeks after the fight, he fell into a depression while surrounded by a cloud of marijuana smoke.

"Smoking upon waking, smoking before bed, before training, after training, throughout the day, and on the way to training at night. Okay, you don't have a fight scheduled.

But people are like, 'Bro, why do you smoke so much? You received a vape pen here. You've got your little marijuana cartridge, right? It's like, 'Leave everything alone,'" McKee stated.

"Therefore, I was able to just look myself in the mirror and ask, 'Are you going to continue to let this influence you?' Or are you going to return it?' You see?

"This was a significant factor. Initially, it was difficult since I understood I had a problem. Then I thought, 'Okay, well, do I really, truly have a problem?' Or am I merely exploiting this issue as a means of coping with my current circumstances?'"

While McKee indulged in self-pity, his father chose an unexpectedly different approach. In fact, Antonio McKee acknowledges his satisfaction with the outcome.

Not only did he teach his son an important life lesson, but the outcome could have the greatest payout.

Everyone said, "Your son just lost!" No, he didn't. He won the battle. He made a poor decision. "What he achieved, he won for life, because he saw the difference between applying himself and not," Antonio McKee said. "Yes, according to everyone who witnessed the battle, he won. That's terrific. Pitbull's face revealed his victory.

"But what they didn't see is that we won because he made a life-altering decision afterward. He gave up smoking. You have now awakened the beast. I'm beyond ecstatic."

In addition, his 5-foot-10-inch kid has moved up a weight class, abandoning the arduous weight reduction. A.J. McKee, who had weighed as much as 185 pounds and knew he needed to lose 40 pounds, claims he never weighed more than 170 pounds before making weight on Friday morning.
