Minecraft's ray-tracing feature for Windows 10 has made its debut in beta just eight months after the feature first became available for testers. The game's aesthetics have been transformed by the addition of ray tracing capabilities to NVIDIA's RTX graphic cards. As we mentioned in our hands-on post earlier this year, the realistic lighting, reflections, and shadows the feature brings make Minecraft feel more immersive. Yes, the game is as blocky as ever but the in-game light looks real, for example, and reflections and shadows can make you feel like you're in a virtual world.

You will be able to observe the benefits of ray tracing in the game if are playing on a computer equipped with one of NVIDIA GPUs that support ray tracing. The enhancements it brings will only be apparent in maps and worlds that utilize a specific physically-based rendering texture pack. However, you don't have to perform anything to enable it - it's already switched on by default. Players who don't have the feature will be able to view the worlds of the game in its normal visuals.

In its announcement, NVIDIA says ray tracing puts more stress on your GPU, which is why it makes use of its DLSS AI rendering technology to ensure that Minecraft with RTX can keep running by at least 60 FPS at 1920x1080. The game can be played at 4K and 60FPS using more advanced GPU models (RTX3080 and 3090).

You can download worlds you can enjoy with ray tracing on from the Marketplace or create your own using assistance from NVIDIA's starter pack for those who require. NVIDIA and Minecraft are also making two new worlds available for free: Colosseum RTX has already been released, and Dungeon dash RTX is expected to be released soon.

All Windows 10 users can now play Minecraft with Ray Tracing
