After an inconsistent second half of the year, the Demons (16-6, 130.5%) looked like they hit their straps at the right time of the season with a pair of crushing victories over Fremantle in Perth and the Lions in Brisbane in the final month - proving they still have what it takes to win the flag.

The Swans (16-6, 127.9%) narrowly missed out on hosting this game at the SCG, but they won’t be too bothered as they head into the finals with a full head of steam. They’ve won 10 of their last 12 games, including their last seven, snapping Collingwood’s 11-game winning streak in the process.

A “rumour” that Sydney’s Lance Franklin will be a late withdrawal with a calf injury was denied by multiple reporters.

“Every indication is that Buddy is fit and well & ready to play tonight. The rumour caught fire about a late out,” the Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph tweeted.

“Swans don’t confirm their teams until the official team sheet comes out. But no one at the Swans is preparing for a change to the team for tonight’s final.”

In the end there were no late changes with Joel Smith (Melbourne) and Braeden Campbell (Sydney) the medical subs.

Tonight’s winner will host the Second Preliminary Final in a fortnight’s time, facing one of Geelong, Collingwood, Fremantle or the Western Bulldogs.

Tonight’s loser will host Brisbane in next week’s Second Semi Final.

This match gets underway at 7:50pm AEST from the MCG.

Watch it live on Fox Footy (channel 504) from 7pm AEST.
