Monthly subscription boxes are a unique concept. The subscribers pay a fee to receive t-shirts as well as other merchandise. The model is employed by companies such as Dollar Shave Club, Fancy, Graze, Loot Crate and Fancy Crate. However, Mojang is a relative newcomer to the market. This is right, Minecraft now has its own swag box.

For $30 a month, Mojang says it will send its subscribers a special "Mine Chest" full of "hand-picked official, Minecraft goodies." The company will keep the exact items secret but promises customers an exclusive t-shirt with DIY crafting recipes, exclusive items that can't be sold in stores and a selection of collectibles each month.

The Mine Chest was first unveiled in July 2015 at MineCon. Mojang offered the keys to 5,000 beta testers to aid them in securing their first boxes. The Mine Chest is now open to everyone. While it sounds like the perfect present for any Minecraft player however, it comes with a few caveats.

Mojang first requires customers to select a monthly plan. This is billed in advance and shipments won't begin until May. The company claims that paying in advance allows it to better serve customers by buying more expensive items in larger quantities to drive costs down. Each monthly Mine Chest will be charged $7 shipping. Finally, Mine Chests are currently only available in the US. Mojang blames the high cost of shipping for its exclusivity, however, it claims that it is "working very hard" to lower them.
