NextGen EHR/EMR and RCM Software Solutions

Unlike most enterprise EHR/EMR software solutions, NextGen Healthcare takes very little build time to go live. It allows you to customize both the front and back end of the software to match your practice's needs, from quality initiatives to small subspecialties. The flexible platform also lets you add additional features to meet your unique needs. To learn more about NextGen EMR and RCM Software Solutions, click here.

CPOE helps reduce prescribing errors

Studies have shown that CPOE helps reduce prescribing errors. According to the Leapfrog Group, CPOE can prevent up to 90 percent of errors, including prescriptions for the wrong drug. This technology minimizes errors related to illegible handwriting, similar-sounding names, and medication specification errors. The system can detect errors at the time of prescribing and prevent them from becoming costly.

Although CPOE is effective at reducing errors, more work is needed to understand the specific challenges of identifying and reporting errors after the implementation of a CPOE system. Specifically, identifying errors following CPOE implementation will require a careful analysis of patient populations. In particular, it will be important to consider the sensitivity of each detection mode. The authors note that the number of errors per patient population may be lower than the rate of error reduction that CPOE can accomplish.

CPOE may also prevent minor errors, such as mistyping of patient data. While the use of electronic prescribing is not yet widespread, research indicates that it can reduce both prescription writing errors and medication decisions. A recent study identified ten new types of electronic prescribing errors, including incorrect dose selection and inappropriate use of defaults. Interestingly, two of the six major errors were specifically related to default CPOE functions.

Integration with other EHRs

Effective EHR integration can only be achieved if various health systems share patient data. Integration requires several health systems to share patient data, creating relevant information in the user interface. To achieve this, an EHR system might need to implement APIs to display requested data, or links to third-party content worklists. Fortunately, there are many options available. Read on to learn how to integrate with various EHR systems. This article outlines a few of these options.

As the digital healthcare industry becomes increasingly streamlined, the integration of health records is vital. It not only gives clinicians easy access to patient data but also enables them to make better decisions. By making it easy for patients to access their records, EHRs improve medication adherence and treatment outcomes. This data sharing leads to better decisions and more cost-effective care. Here are some benefits of full EHR integration:

UpToDate integration brings trusted clinical decision support to the point of care. UpToDate supports improved patient satisfaction, lab results evaluation, and patient education, and can even provide CME/CE/CPD credits. Integration with other EHRs allows for a seamless workflow for physicians. The challenge is how to configure and integrate the systems. Here are some tips to get started:

NextGen's comprehensive RCM and EHR software solutions include a robust training program, which is delivered through virtual courses. An instructor leads the sessions through WebEx video conferences. Staff members attend a training session and learn about the features and functions of the software. For example, the front office staff will not learn about charting features, but they will be able to learn about patient vitals captured during intake.

Although NextGen's Enterprise EHR starts at $299 per provider/month, MediTouch's RCM software is only $79 per month and is a better option for smaller practices with low patient volumes. The price for its RCM software solution is roughly equivalent to the price of StrongBox RCM. Although NextGen is priced similarly, StrongBox RCM Software doesn't disclose its pricing publicly.

While EHR/EMR software solutions are primarily designed for doctors, a good PMS will also include a practice management system. Practice management systems include software that streamlines patient file review. These software systems should work well with one another and integrate data between the two. It is recommended that an EHR and PMS work together to integrate patient information. NextGen Healthcare's CureMD EHR includes components for substance abuse treatment, care, and diagnostics. It also features an excellent inventory management feature.
