To help bring attention to the devastation of mangroves as well as the important benefits they provide, Minecraft created Rooted Together, an interactive map where players can explore a mangrove-based ecosystem in-game.
The game lets players plant mangroves, track CO2 levels and see new wildlife. It's an interactive demonstration of how trends in climate, biodiversity, and climate change affect the mangrove habitat's health. The more mangroves players plant, the less likely climate change will be, and the more animals can return to their homes.
TNC Conservation Support
Mojang Studios will contribute $200,000 to TNC to help support our mission and the in-game interaction of mangrove ecosystems. In July, Minecraft creators hosted their own charity streams, which reached more than 350,000 viewers live and 33,500 viewers via video-on-demand. The creators played Minecraft live and also educated viewers on the importance of mangroves around the world. They also discussed some of TNC’s efforts to restore and protect this vital ecosystem.
