Troubleshooting solutions to resolve QuickBooks error code 6000 83:

While creating a backup of the company file

Cause: You might have been trying to store the backup company file on an external drive.

Solution: Save the backup company file on the system’s internal hard drive

  • At first, close down the QuickBooks Desktop on the server computer (the computer that hosts the company file) if it’s running.
  • Press Windows + E keys on the keyboard to open the Windows File Explorer.
  • In the Windows File Explorer, open the C: drive and then right-click on an empty space on the screen.
  • Choose the New option from the drop-down menu and then click on the Folder option.
  • Give the folder a name such as “QB Test123.”
  • Now, open QuickBooks Desktop and click on the File menu.
  • From the drop-down menu, select the Switch to Single-user mode option.
  • Again, click on the File menu and select the Back up Company option.
  • Under Back up Company, click on the Create Local Backup option.
  • Now, choose Local Backup and then hit the Next button.
  • Click on the Browse button to select the folder (QBTest123) that you have created in the C: drive.
  • Hit the OK button.
  • At last, click on Save it now and then Next.

While restoring the backup company file from the local hard drive

Cause: There might be some special characters or symbols present in the name of the company file or the folder that contains it.

Solution: Make changes to the name of the company file and the folder that contains it

  • Open the Windows Firewall Explorer by pressing Windows + E keys on the keyboard.
  • Go to the folder that contains the backup company file and open it.
  • Look for the backup company file ( with the .qbb extension) and right-click it.
  • From the drop-down list of options, choose the Rename option.
  • Remove any symbols, special characters, or spaces from the name of the backup company file.
  • Now, right-click the folder that contains the backup company file and select the Rename option.
  • Remove any symbols, special characters, or spaces from the name of the folder.

While opening the company file saved on the server at a different location in multi-user mode

Cause: More than one system might have been set as the server to host the company file in multi-user mode.

Solution: Turn off hosting on the workstations (computers that don’t host the company file)

  • Open QuickBooks Desktop on one of the workstations.
  • Click on the File menu and then select the Utilities option.
  • If under Utilities, you see the Stop Hosting Multi-User Access option, click on it. In case the Host Multi-User Access option is available, ignore it.

Note: Check the hosting settings on all workstations in the same manner as we have mentioned above.

  • Open QuickBooks Desktop on the server computer and go to the File menu.
  • From the drop-down menu, select the Utilities option.
  • If under Utilities, you see the Host Multi-User Access option, click on it. In case the Stop Hosting Multi-User Access option is available, ignore it.
