As of recently, on 15 September last year, Sony has prepared for a real revolution when it comes to gaming on the PS5! With this update for the PlayStation 5, fortunate owners of the latest console can now access their games and media via mobile networks and their smartphones. Can you believe it? In pursuit of Nintendo's gaming potential, Sony's experts made it possible to play games without being confined within the four walls of your room! With this option, you can ditch your game room, take only your favorite modded PS5 controller and head out to face the adventures. You can finally play on a plane, on the beach, or at a summer barbecue with your friends! But how to do it? Relax, we will discuss it today!

What is PlayStation remote play?

All the latest, the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 include a feature called Remote Play, which allows you to send video and audio to another PC, a cool addition, but it failed to revolutionize gameplay. Then in 2014, it was expanded to include the option for PlayStation TV, Xperia smartphones and tablets, and PlayStation Now, as well as PlayStation Portable and PlayStation Vita. Two years later, the modifications followed, launching on Microsoft Windows and macOS systems. Finally, Apple iOS and Google Android operating systems joined the puzzle and also became compatible with the feature. In November 2020, just before the PS5 console was introduced, support for remote play of PlayStation 5 games on other devices were rolled out. The concept itself is quite self-explanatory. Remote Play does exactly what it says it does, which is to allow you to use your PlayStation console remotely. It can be a great feature for travelers and active folks. But not only that! It will also come in handy for homebodies, for example, if your PlayStation 5 is connected to the TV in the living room, but another household member is occupying the TV, you can still use the console, but instead from your computer, tablet or smartphone. All you need is for both devices to connect to the same Wi-Fi network.

What do you need to use the Remote Play feature on your mobile device?

Below you will find all the items you need to take care of to use the Remote Play option. To use the Remote Play feature, you will need:

An Android smartphone or tablet, iPhone or iPad

Visit the Sony website for exact requirements and models.

A PS5 or PS4 system

The system software should always be updated to the latest version.

An account to access PlayStation Network

You may use the same account as for your PS5 console. If you do not already have an account, you must create one.

High-speed Internet connection

A high-speed Internet connection with an upload and download speed of at least 5 Mbps is recommended by default. For maximum performance, we recommend a high-speed connection with upload and download speeds of at least 15 MB/s.

Additional feature: connecting your PS5 controllers

You can connect your DualSense or DUALSHOCK4 PS5 controllers to supported devices for more convenient gaming. You can opt for Sony original devices, choose a ready-made modded PS5 controller, or create your own PlayStation 5 controller, at sites of such companies as AimControllers, to maximize your enjoyment of gaming on the road.

How do I set up my console for Remote Play?

Before you can start conquering worlds and slaying monsters with your beloved modded PS5 controller, you need to set up your PS5 console for Remote Play. Do this the first time you use the Remote Play feature, and you will be done.

How to do it?

Console on

Open Settings (on the home screen) > go to - System > Remote Play and select Enable Remote Play.

How do I enable Remote Play on my mobile device?

Whenever you connect to your PS5 or PS4 console from your mobile device, you need to follow a few steps first:

  • Step 1: Turn on the console or put it into standby mode.

  • Step 2: Enable Remote Play on your mobile device and select: Sign in to PSN.
