In a world where computing is increasingly coming accessible and convenient for day-to-day use, does a gaming PC still hold any significance, or is a gaming laptop the one you need?

Gaming laptops are becoming increasingly powerful thanks to the advancement in high-performance computing. That makes one wonder if they have passed the point where they have made gaming laptops redundant.

I was asking this question myself before going to college - sike! After a lot of research and digging around, I have compiled the necessary information to give you a definitive. However, let me warn you, the answer is not what you think.

Gaming PC

The following are the main advantages and disadvantages of a gaming PC.

Advantages

The main advantage of a gaming PC is its brute performance capability. Although there are many powerful laptops available in the market, however, if you want the most powerful computer, then you have to go with a gaming PC.

For example, in the Pro settings environment, a gaming PC is favored over a gaming laptop because all the Esport professional players want the maximum performance.

A gaming PC can be used in a wide range of applications. For instance, a gaming PC can also double down as a cloud server or as a data storage server. This interoperability makes the PC more appealing to enterprise consumers such as Esports teams, gaming organizations, etc.

Another key advantage of a gaming PC is the fact it can be customized and made to look exactly like the consumer wants. For instance, if a person wants a stormtrooper-themed white gaming PC built, he can do that.

Disadvantage

The main disadvantage of a gaming PC is its lack of mobility. The gaming PC stays in a fixed position, usually on a desk. Therefore, unlike the gaming PC, it cannot be accessed all the time.

Another major disadvantage of a gaming PC is that it occupies a lot of space. So, if you don’t have a desk big enough, a gaming PC simply won’t fit.

You also have to keep in mind that with a gaming PC, you will need to separately purchase a mouse, keyboard, monitor, and speakers. However, with a laptop, these things come built-in.

Gaming Laptop

Here are the key advantages and disadvantages of a gaming laptop.

Advantages

The main key advantage of a gaming laptop is that it can be used as a go-anywhere machine. For instance, you can use a gaming laptop when you are in Starbucks waiting for your coffee or on campus during the off-lecture time.

A gaming laptop is compact and portable, so you can easily take it with you on a daily basis. Another important advantage of a gaming laptop is that it is convenient and hassle-free to set up. Everything you need is included or built into the laptop.

Disadvantage

The gaming laptop, despite getting more powerful with each new generation, still does not match the performance of a gaming PC. For instance, if you take the best gaming laptop under 700. Its performance will be equal to a gaming PC that is less the price.

Conclusion

Both gaming laptops and gaming PCs have their advantages and disadvantages. However, to answer the all-important question of which is better for gaming, I would personally choose a gaming laptop, Here’s why.

While a gaming laptop cannot perform on the level of a gaming PC, it covers almost 90% of the performance of a gaming PC. So, with that little performance compromise, you actually get to use the gaming laptop when you want and wherever you want. Therefore, a gaming laptop is a better choice than a gaming PC.
