Minecraft star Stampy Cat to deliver RSE Christmas lecture

YouTube and Minecraft legend Stampy Cat is to deliver an address in front of 2,000 students in Dundee.



Stampy, whose real name was Joseph Garrett, will deliver the Royal Society of Edinburgh's Christmas lecture in Caird Hall on Monday.



The creator of the "Let's Play" videos for Minecraft and other games has more than 6.7m users on his YouTube channel.



The lecture will be broadcast exclusively on BBC iPlayer next Thursday.



BBC Scotland reported that Minecraft fans will be able to witness Stampy demonstrate how he creates his videos during a discussion with Chris van der Kuyl, Dundee games entrepreneur.



Stampy will talk through the process of making his Christmas special while giving the audience an insight into his life and career that has seen him become one of the most popular YouTubers.

Van der Kuyl said that Stampy was the "epitome digital native of the 21st century" who could inspire viewers regardless of age.



"Stampy is an inspiring figure to a whole new generation that can clearly see how their future careers will be based on a unique blend of talents, creativity , and technical skills that can be learned," he said.



The RSE lecture will be given as part of BBC Make it Digital, an initiative designed to promote digital creativity among children and teens.
