Event: ONE Championship 161
Date: 29.09.2022
Tawanchai, meanwhile, is an unrelenting force capable of knocking anyone out without any warning whatsoever. His three wins in ONE Championship have all been finishes and it doesn’t look like he’s changing his approach to his matches any sooner.
Tawanchai will come out aggressive yet still methodical and calculating. He’ll back Petchmorakot up and might drop him a few times early. Eventually, the methodical pressure will wilt the will of the champion and make him vulnerable to Tawanchai’s fight-ending kill shot.
With such an intriguing world title match, we here at Sportskeeda MMA have tried to predict what ONE 161 has to offer.
Physically, they're practically identical, which cancels out any advantage on both ends. While it's not easy to discount the heart of the champion, I feel like Tawanchai will be able to perform at a level higher when they meet in the circle.
We haven’t seen Tawanchai go the distance that much in ONE Championship and I think this one will be the same. If they do, I think he will be able to take advantage of Petchmorakot’s fatigue and turn the match in his favor in the championship rounds. I’m looking at a Tawanchai TKO via body shot in the third round.
Tawanchai is an absolute phenom, but I believe he can also match Petchmorakot even technique-wise. Simply put, he's a generational talent on the cusp of greatness. That being said, this is Tawanchai's truest test. If he passes, it could be the beginning of a tremendous run that could see the young gun transform into a global superstar.
Petchmorakot can stay patient like a predator from the outside, and attack when Tawanchai tries to back him up with heavy kicks and punches. These might be the main plot when they bang it out this Thursday, but I see the defending world champion catching his countryman during one of those exchanges to claim another big scalp in the division at the end of ONE 161.
Their world title fight at ONE 161 will be an interesting clash of styles between Petchmorakot’s methodical pace and Tawanchai’s diabolical approach. Petchmorakot is still very capable of knocking opponents out but how Tawanchai stops his matches are scary.
Tawanchai isn’t one to slowly cut his opponents down to size and would rather launch a world-ender of a strike without any kind of set-up whatsoever.
“For Tawanchai, I think I have a high chance to even knock him out because he still lacks experience in ONE. Certainly, he is a veteran in Thailand, but I don’t think he is going to be a tough task when we meet in the ONE Circle.”
If Petchmorakot can bring this fight to his speed then he could leave Singapore with gold still draped on his shoulder, but that is a hypothesis that can be disproved by the sheer force that Tawanchai brings. I see Tawanchai getting this in the third round of the ONE 161 headliner.
Like Petchmorakot, the 23-year-old Tawanchai is an elite power puncher and is coming off back-to-back spectacular knockouts.
But with only four fights in the ONE Circle – compared to 11 for Petchmorakot – the young phenom has far less experience at this level. And the Petchyindee superstar thinks that difference will be a major factor.
I think Petchmorakot's last two fights could have gone either way, and I believe Tawanchai will not let the world title slip from his grasp in the same way at ONE 161. His back-to-back wins, in contrast to Petchmorakot's, are a masterclass for destroying an opponent in Muay Thai.
Tawanchai and Petchmorakot are equally balanced in the offensive department when you take a peak into their arsenal. But what separates these two striking phenoms is their ability when working on the back foot. A trait that slides in favor of the featherweight Muay Thai kingpin.
The two superstar strikers will stake their claim for gold in the main event of their namesake event ONE 161: Petchmorakot vs. Tawanchai this Thursday at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Unbeaten in five straight contests, Petchmorakot is brimming with confidence ahead of yet another World Title defense.
But make no mistake – he’s anything but dismissive of his opponent’s skills and even admits the challenger holds a specific advantage.
While Petchmorakot has reigned supreme since February 2020, Tawanchai has been on a warpath, knocking out almost everyone thrown his way since arriving at ONE Championship in 2021.
ONE 161 also presents a clash of contrasting styles between the two Muay Thai artists. Petchmorakot, who owns four finishes to his name in ONE Championship, is one of the most methodical fighters in the sport and takes his time softening up his opponents.
Delboni is the clear favorite in this battle due to her grappling expertise, but Decoursey is still very much in it. We believe Delboni will win, but not enough to recommend a heavy bet on him. There’s nothing wrong with dividing your bankroll across numerous low-risk wagers on the Invicta FC 49 odds, so don’t stake your entire ticket on this one preferred option.
We’re concentrating on our best bets in each category, such as value bets, parlay picks, and upset picks. Below the money lines and fighter names, you’ll find an MMA breakdown and prediction for each fight. Place your wagers before September 28th, 2022, at 8:00 PM ET.
Souza is a skilled Brazilian fighter with an impressive 11-3 record. Two of her losses have come against opponents who have succeeded in the UFC and ONE Championship. Souza is a capable fighter who has only lost to top talent and is looking to extend her winning streak to four with a win over Maiju Suotama.
Souza’s skills are very impressive, especially her striking. In her 11 professional victories, she has 8 KO’s and 1 submission. Souza will be looking to land big strikes, and I believe she’ll be trying to finish Suotama in the first round.
But I believe the fight should take place, and if they contact me right now, I would make a commitment to complete that fight before moving on to the UFC. But if I first sign with the UFC, it will be an exclusive contract, and bare knuckle will have to wait.”
“So it all depends,” Helen Peralta continued. Making plans as a professional fighter is really difficult. Everything, your entire career, is dependent on your next performance.”
Because she’ll have it hanging over her until she beats me.” She’ll be haunted by that shadow the entire time. After myself and Johnny Bedford, one of the champs, she’s one of my favorite bare-knuckle fighters.
If I don’t get signed with the UFC straight away, I’m an independent contractor who would want to face the champion for BKFC. Christine Ferea’s sole loss is mine. I enjoyed the first bout and believe it was close enough. I believe she deserves a chance to prove to the world that she is the finest.”
“I just like fighting.” I don’t have a precise aim in mind. If I get a good knockout on Wednesday and the UFC calls, I’ll take it. However, you will be competing against some of the greatest in the world. I’ll keep doing that for as long as I can.
The event will begin at 8 p.m. ET on AXS TV in the United States, Fight Network in Canada, and Invicta’s official YouTube Channel and Facebook Page. Tickets for the event will go on sale through StubWire on Wednesday, August 24 at 10 a.m. CT.
Kristina “Warhorse” Williams (6-3) of Oklahoma will face newcomer Ketlen “Esquentadinha” Souza (11-3) of Brazil in the co-main event of the evening. Williams is riding a three-game winning streak, including two straight in the Invicta cage. Souza also enters the bout on a three-fight winning streak and has won eight of her 11 career fights via knockout.
Also on the card, Liz “The Titan” Tracy (7-4) tries to make it three in a row against Contender Series veteran Valesca “Tina Black” Machado (9-3) in a strawweight battle, “The Ultimate Fighter” alum Helen “Iansa” Peralta (5-2) welcomes seven-fight UFC veteran Poliana Botelho (8-5) to the promotion at flyweight, and “The Quiet Storm” Brittney Cloudy (4-4)
Suotama is set to replace Kristina Williams who was supposed to be in the co-main event of this event with Ketlen Souza. Now Suotama steps in on short notice and hopes to break the losing streak she is currently on. Suotama has had a bit of a ‘hot-and-cold’ career, having multiple winning and losing streaks that stretch 3+ fights.
Suotama will be looking to break her current three-fight losing streak. Suotama has fought for Invicta once before, when she lost to Shanna Young in 2019. Suotama is 8-6 in her career, with 7 of those victories coming via KO or Sub. Suotama must use her finishing abilities to get Souza out of the fight if she wants to win.
We’re focusing on our top bets for each category, including value bet, parlay pick and upset pick. You’ll see an MMA breakdown and prediction for each fight below the money lines and fighter names. Place your bets by September 28th, 2022 at 8:00 PM ET.
This fight has Delboni as a major favorite because of her grappling background, but Decoursey is still very in this fight. We think Delboni will win, but not enough to recommend a large wager on the champ. There’s nothing wrong with spreading your bank roll across several low risk bets on the Invicta FC 49 odds, so don’t dump your whole ticket on this one favorite pick.
A modest 30% return on the Invicta FC 49 odds for Ketlen Souza. She’s a born finisher going up against a Soutama; who’s in the midst of a massive losing streak. A Souza finish is as close as this card comes to a sure thing, and if we had a Souza via Finish prop bet, we’d take it. Tack this on to this week’s top picks and build a winning parlay ticket.
Over the past few years, Tracy has been on a tear in professional grappling. She’s lost only one pro BJJ match, and hasn’t lost a fight since 2020.
Oddsmakers are giving her opponent far too much credit. Botelho is a UFC vet fighting a knockout artist whose combined wins have a record of 6-1. I don’t think Botelho will walk right through her, but we’re confident she won’t get knocked out. This is a fantastic bet for parlay tickets or single bets on an undervalued fighter.
This is Delboni’s first Invicta fight as a massive favorite. She was the underdog in her first fight with Zappitella, a split decision loss and her second loss inside three fights. Delboni has been focused on pro grappling bouts and Invicta exhibitions. This is her first title defense, and a fight that’s clearly meant to build Delboni up as a champion.
Jillian won an upset over Lindsey VanZandt in May as a +200. She lost her last two fights, including a decision loss to the UFC’s Elise Reed. Decoursey has struggled in her MMA career, but has only fought and lost to top tier MMA opponents, including her third fight being with future champ Alesha Zappitella.
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — On Wednesday, September 28, Invicta Fighting Championships will return to Oklahoma.
The event will be headlined by atomweight champion Jessica Delboni (12-3), who will defend her 105-pound championship for the first time against “Lionheart” Jillian DeCoursey at the Sugar Creek Casino in Hinton (5-3). Delboni added to her trophy cabinet in January, capitalizing on her Phoenix Tournament victory to dethrone then-champion Alesha Zappitella in a decisive way at Invicta FC 45. DeCoursey of New York made a strong case for a championship opportunity with a highlight-reel 61-second knockout of Lindsey VanZandt at Invicta FC 47.
Invicta FC 49 will take place on September 28 in Hinton, Oklahoma, with one minor modification to the co-main event.
Kristina Williams has withdrawn from the event due to an injury and will be replaced by Phoenix Tournament competitor Maiju Suotama (8-6-0). Ketlen Souza (11-3-0) of Brazil will make her Invicta debut against her.
Jessica Delboni (12-3-0) defends her atomweight title for the first time against Jillian DeCoursey in the main event (5-3-0). Delboni won the championship earlier this month at Invicta FC 45, defeating Alesha Zappitella.
Our underdog is 3-0-1, and has racked up a 5-2 amatuer record since 2018. Vera is a well rounded ground fighter who went to a draw with the talented Nayara Maia. Bannon is considered a big favorite, after back to back knockouts and a 9-3 amatuer run.
We are betting the favorite, but this isn’t a value bet or parlay pick. Bannon is a good fighter, and we could easily see Vera taking this to decision. Bannon’s losses in the amateur’s involved submissions and ground work, so beating Vera is Bannon’s path to silencing those critiques
Soutama is on a four fight losing streak including back to back losses to Shanna Young. Out of Finland, Soutama doesn’t have much local competition, and six of her eight wins have one pro fight or less.
Souza’s skills are very impressive, especially her striking. In her 11 professional victories, she has 8 KO’s and 1 submission. Souza will be looking to land big strikes, and I believe she’ll be trying to finish Suotama in the first round.
The betting line for this fight has not changed much since it opened. Souza started around -300 and currently sits at -305. Suotama, on the other hand, is sitting around +245 to +250 on major sportsbooks. This is understandable because Suotama is coming in on short notice, and Souza is a very skilled fighter on a winning streak. I also am expecting Souza to win this fight pretty handily.
