28 July 2022
While the rest of the sporting world suffered major disruptions over the past couple of years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you'll be able to watch the 2022 Commonwealth Games right on schedule due to its timing.
The last Commonwealth Games were held in 2018 on the Gold Coast. In 2022, the Games head to Birmingham in England. It's the third time England has hosted the event.
Australia dominated the medal count at the last Games, winning 80 golds overall and is expected to do well again in Birmingham. England will be given a boost courtesy of a home ground advantage in 2022, so will be expected to finish near the top.
The last time England hosted the games in 2002, they finished second overall. Scotland too should be given a lift due to its proximity to home and should finish deep inside the top 10.
Look out for perennial Commonwealth powerhouses Canada, India and South Africa to be up the pointy end of the final medal tally. Expect a few gold medal wins from the likes of New Zealand, Nigeria, Malaysia, Kenya and Jamaica too. All up, there are 54 countries and 18 territories taking part.
Let's be honest. We love watching Aussies win gold and there will once again be plenty of opportunities to do so at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The Commonwealth Games run from Friday 29 July to Tuesday 9 August AEST. They will be held at 15 different venues in and around Birmingham in England.
The Seven Network has the rights to the Commonwealth Games. That means you can catch the event on free-to-air TV without the need for a subscription. The Seven Network will mostly be screening events on its main channel 7 and multichannel 7Mate, as well as occasionally on 7Two.
Keep in mind there is a 9-hour time difference between Birmingham and the eastern Australian states, 8-and-a-half hours for the central states and 7 hours for WA. That means a lot of the action will be in the early hours of the morning AEST.
Live coverage of each day's events will get underway at 7pm AEST on Seven and go right through until the following morning at around 7:30am.
