What Can Be Included In A Forestry Mulcher Inspection Checklist?
3 min read

Forestry mulching service is an eco-friendly way of clearing land by transforming trees, brush, and grass into mulches. These are reintroduced into the soil and make the soil more fertile and richer. With other techniques, the topsoil layer is not preserved, but with forestry mulching, the topsoil remains in the best condition. It controls the spread of invasive species and restores wildlife health.

The mulch prevents erosion and stabilizes the ground. Forestry mulcher is used to cut, grind and clear the land instead of using bulldozers, tree shears, excavators, and other multiple machines. So you will be able to complete the task faster.

Forestry mulchers can be of various sizes. The small ones are used for clearing the garden and yard. The high-performance machines are used for clearing construction sites and land with heavy foliage and thick brush. Before using a forestry mulcher, you should prepare an inspection checklist to ensure that it's in the best condition. Here are some things that should be included in the checklist.

Fluid levels

The fluid levels must be checked to make sure that they are at the right mark. Otherwise, the machine won’t operate smoothly. If the fluid level stays low then it can lead to early wear on the parts and friction hazards may occur.

Wiring

The wiring must be checked for abrasion, wear, and bare spots. If bare wires come in touch with each other then an electrical short circuit may occur.

Hydraulic hoses

The hydraulic hoses require regular monitoring. When the machine is operated, the hydraulic hoses may be affected due to rubbing or any mechanical injury. This will make the hose weak and it won’t be able to withstand much pressure. It might leak as well and in such a case, the hose must be replaced right away; otherwise, it may burst and cause a fire.

Manifold and turbocharger

These areas can be heated to a high temperature. These must be inspected every morning to get rid of debris. Even after shut down, these areas must be inspected and allowed to cool properly.

Debris accumulation

You must regularly inspect the mulcher for accumulation of debris, as it may cause a fire hazard. It should be a regular practice to remove debris every day.

Before using the forestry mulcher every day, this inspection list must be followed. A person must be assigned to do the inspection. Daily inspection can reduce the risk of fire hazards and also extend the life of the forestry mulcher.
