And in a study conducted by Tufts University in Boston, USA, researchers said those who eat more flavonoid-rich foods are less likely to develop Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. .

Diet x Alzheimer's Disease: How The Research Went

The study lasted 20 years and involved 2,800 participants aged 50 and over. In it, the researchers reported that people who ate the least amount of flavonoid-rich foods were two to four times more likely to develop Alzheimer's disease and related diseases.

However, this is not the first time the substance has been linked to a reduced risk of dementia. Another study from the same educational institution, published in the journal Neurology, concluded that consuming flavonoids can help fight the development of Alzheimer's disease.

Specifically, among the 921 participants in the analysis, those who ate the most flavonoids had a 48% lower chance of developing the disease.

At the Alzheimer's Association, the results of the study were greeted with interest and enthusiasm, but also with caution. Because, according to its members, even though some factors, like genes, cannot be changed, most people have some control over healthy eating.

What Are The Best Foods High In Flavonoids?

Many fruits and vegetables are a source of antioxidants. But nutritionists say these are some of the best flavonoid-rich foods and drinks: tea (especially green tea), dark chocolate (85% cocoa), berries, apples, citrus fruits, asparagus, leafy greens and red wine.

How Much Do You Consume?

This particular study found that 500 milligrams was a good amount to take each day.
