Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is confirmed to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for the latest serial project entitled Wonder Man. He will play a superhero character with the real name Simon Williams.
According to Variety, Wonder Man will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. He previously directed Shang Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings (2021) and has been appointed director of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (2025).
Cretton will team up with Andrew Guest as the head of the Wonder Man series writing team. Guest is the creator behind a number of popular series, from Brooklyn Nine-Nine to Community.

However, Marvel Studios has yet to announce a show schedule for Wonder Man. The studio has also not announced the lineup of other actors who join the series.
The character Wonder Man first appeared in Marvel Comics in the October 1964 issue of The Avengers #9. The superhero character was created by Stan Lee with Jack Kirby and Don Heck.
In the comic version, Williams is the son of a giant company owner Williams Innovations. However, the company went out of business because it could not compete with Stark Industries.

Williams then felt desperate to go to Baron Zemo for revenge. Zemo also gave Williams super powers to infiltrate as a member of The Avengers in order to betray them.
However, he instead became a dedicated member of the Avengers to become the founder of a sub-unit called the West Coast Avengers. Williams was even willing to sacrifice his life, even though he was finally resurrected to become a full-fledged superhero.
Wonder Man is known to have super powers related to ionic energy. That energy makes him have superhuman strength to be able to run at high speed.

He also has a number of superhuman abilities thanks to the ionic energy that spreads through his body. Some of them, superhuman senses, are immune, to be able to heal themselves naturally.
In addition, Simon Williams basically also has above average intelligence. He previously worked as a stuntman and his career continued to climb to become a Hollywood actor.

Meanwhile, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is a top actor who has appeared in various Hollywood films and series. He has even appeared in superhero films from different universes.
He previously played Black Manta, the enemy of Aquaman (Jason Momoa) in the film Aquaman (2018). He will also reprise his role as the villain in the sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023).
The 36-year-old actor also previously played the character of Cal Abraham aka Dr. Manhattan in the superhero series Watchmen (2019). Yahya Abdul-Mateen II even won the Emmy Awards 2020 for the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie category.
