'High school student' Yang Min-hyuk, who has been leading the charge of professional soccer's K League 1 Gangwon FC this season, has signed as a full professional player six months after joining the club as a semi-professional.
Kangwon FC CEO Kim Byung-ji announced the news of Yang Min-hyuk's professional contract through the club's live broadcast on Sunday.
He was promoted to professional status six months after joining Gangwon as a semi-professional on December 29 last year.
Born in 2006 and currently attending Gangneung First High School, Yang Min-hyuk will remain a semi-professional until this year, but Gangwon recognized his skills and contributions and turned him pro six months early.
Like Yang Hyun-joon (Celtic), who left Gangwon last year after playing as an ace, Yang Min-hyuk, who wears the number 47 shirt, has appeared in all 17 matches this season, accumulating eight offensive points (five goals and three assists).
With Yang Min-hyuk as the spearhead of their counterattack, Gangwon's increased scoring has helped them move up to second place with 31 points from nine wins, four draws, and four losses.
With 32 goals in 17 matches, they are also second in the top scoring category behind leaders Ulsan HD (32-33 goals).
This is a dramatic improvement from last season, when they finished 10th and only managed to stay in the top flight after a relegation playoff. This is thanks to a significant improvement in scoring, which was last with 30 goals in 38 games 사설토토 last season.
When asked by fans if Yang Min-hyuk's salary should be raised to 1 billion won, Kim replied, "His performance is worth 1 billion won." He added, "For sure, if he becomes the MVP of the season, we will give him another 100 million won."
Yang Min-hyuk, who appeared on the live broadcast with Kim, said, "We are doing so well, but I think we can do better in the remaining games," adding, "I think we can do better if more fans come."
When Mr. Kim said, "If he (Yang) goes to a big club later, I'll put him in a headlock," Mr. Yang couldn't help but laugh.
Kim then said, "That's tradition. No. 47, when you go (to the big club), take a picture (of who you're going to give) and go. You should be good enough."
Kim used a similar approach last year to officially announce Yang Hyun-joon's move to Celtic via a live broadcast.
Yang Hyun-joon, whose relationship with the club had become uncomfortable as rumors of his transfer surfaced, appeared on the broadcast, and Kim put him in a headlock, signaling that the player and the club had resolved their differences.
