The state of Uttar Pradesh will mourn the death of Samajwadi Party stalwart Mulayam Singh Yadav for three days, as stated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow. According to a spokeswoman, the BJP leader also called Mulayam Singh's brother Ram Gopal Yadav and son Akhilesh Yadav to express his condolences. Yogi Adityanath has remarked, "The death of former Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav is really sad."

He also declared a three-day period of mourning and said that full state honours will be accorded to the deceased's last rituals.
Former chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, who served as such three times, passed away today at the age of 82.
He was the Defense Minister of India and was affectionately called "Netaji" by Samajwadi Party members.
Mulayam S Yadav spent 19 months in jail when Indira Gandhi declared the Emergency in the 1970s.

In his condolences for Mulayam Singh Yadav, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recalled how he was a "key soldier for democracy" during the Emergency, which was enforced by the previous Congress administration in the mid-1970s.
