3 Ways to Craft Ribbon Bows to Bring Charm to Gift Packages

Be it any occasion, we all love one-of-a-kind gifts with a personalized touch. As I’m a big craft enthusiast, I have a lot of craft supplies so instead of store-bought bows, I usually create my own artwork at home. It makes no sense to spend more on gift wrapping than the actual present. I normally end up making last-minute plans but always pay attention to how much even a paper costs me.

3 Ways to Craft Ribbon Bows to Bring Charm to Gift Packages

Gradually, I have learned a few simple bow-making techniques to make my gift packages stand out from the crowd. Whether it’s Christmas, birthday bash, or whatever the soiree, some easy tricks, and creativity are all you need to make a bow out of ribbon and leftover wrapping paper scraps.

Let’s start with a tutorial of my all-time favorite DIY gift toppers to add a new life to your presents and occasions.

1.Classic Ribbon Bow

You might have seen a classic bow everywhere. It is so simple to make and looks like it has been bought directly from the store. Just grab your craft materials, a pair of scissors and I’ll take you through the rest.

Materials Needed:

  • Ribbon (any of your choice)
  • Scissors
  • Ruler

Instructions:

  1. Cut approx. 15 inches of ribbon for a medium-sized bow. Don’t twist the bow, simply fold it back and forth to make two loops, one at the top and the other in the bottom center.
  2. Create one loop over the other and make a third small loop where the bases meet. Now fold the left loop behind the right and through the bottom loop.
  3. Pull the top loops and make a knot in the middle of the bow. In the end, trim the rough trails and tie the ends. It’s time to add a perfect finishing touch to your wrapped gifts.

2.Layered Ribbon Bow

This is one of my favorite kinds of bows as it looks quite subtle yet elegant. It is very simple to create, just cut desired lengths of ribbon, attach the end to make loops, and stack the loops on top of each other. My family and friends loved this gift topper on the Easter holiday.

Supplies Needed:

  • Ribbon
  • Taper
  • Ruler
  • Scissor

Instructions:

  1. Cut multiple pieces of grosgrain ribbon, each two inches longer than the previous one. For the loop in the middle, cut a piece 2-3 times as long as the ribbon is wide. I decided to cut 3-inch, 5-inch, 7-inch, and 9-inch pieces.
  2. Fold the end and place them down to adhere to form two loops. Attach the ends of the center loop together. For the bottom section, cut a fabric piece slightly longer than the longest loop and tie the ends.
  3. Now stack the looped ribbons on the top of the bottom section. Secure the centers using double-stick tape, thread a long ribbon piece through the center loop, and then wrap it around a gift package. Secure it well using tape at the back.

3.Pom-Pom Bow

Every gift package needs an adorable topper. Whether you prefer to wrap your gifts with wrapping paper or fabric, a decorative pom-pom bow will be an exquisite present-giving option for any occasion.

Supplies Required:

  • Ribbon of your choice
  • Craft wire
  • Scissors

Instructions:

  1. Make a ribbon circle roughly 6 inches in size. I picked organza and deco mesh ribbon for a luxurious look. Wind it around forming 8 circles to make your bow appear fuller.
  2. Once you’re done with wrapping the ribbons into circles, smoothen the loops and make a diagonal cut at each nook.
  3. After cutting four nooks, refold the smoothen loops so that cut notches meet in the middle. Gently tie a thin piece of craft wire around the middle notches and make sure to tie the ribbon as tightly as possible. Let the strings hanging as they will be hidden by the loops later.
  4. Work on one section of the bow, pull out the inner loop and twist it to the right. Repeat the same for the other section of the bow.
  5. Assemble the loops as required to complete the bow. Use thin wire ends to secure the bow at the top of the wrapped present.
