You can download and launch the Microsoft Authenticator app at www.aka.ms/mfasetup login. Since passwords are simple to forget or steal and can be used against you, using this software to set up two-factor authentication gives you a safer way to sign in.

Your phone is more secure thanks to two-factor authentication, and it's more difficult for thieves, everyday users, and hackers to access your account. The Microsoft Authenticator app has many uses that you can choose from.

Set up multi-factor authentication for your Microsoft 365 sign-in.

You must configure your user account in order to use multi-factor authentication (MFA) once your admin has configured it for your organisation and your account. This shouldn't take more than a minute.

Adding MFA increases the security of the sign-in process for your Microsoft 365 account. You may, for instance, enter your password first, and then, when prompted, enter a verification code that is generated immediately by an authenticator app or delivered to your phone.

  • Sign in to Microsoft 365 as usual using your work or school account and password. You will be asked for further details if you choose Sign in.
  • Select Next.
  • By default, you authenticate yourself using the free Microsoft Authenticator app. To add this account if it's already on your phone, hit Next and adhere to the instructions on the screen. You can click a link to download it if you don't already have it.
  • Select "I want to set up a different method" if you'd want to have SMS messages sent to your phone in place of this. After requesting your phone number, Microsoft 365 will send you an SMS message including a 6-digit code to validate your device.
  • Once you’ve gone through the steps to choose your additional verification method, the next time you sign in to Microsoft 365, you’ll ask to provide the additional verification information or action. For example, you might be asked to type in the verification code that your authenticator app or a text message sent you.

If you wish to use two-factor authentication, Microsoft has created an app called Authenticator that you may use with your accounts. Two-step verification gives an additional layer of security when you use your accounts in case your password is compromised, forgotten, or stolen.

Adding a second piece of information, such as a phone number, or using two-step verification makes it more difficult for unauthorised users to access your account. With the Authenticator programme, several things are possible:

Two-factor authentication, where a password is one of the two factors, is the most typical method of confirming someone's identity. You'll be prompted to confirm an alert or input a verification code after entering your username and password to log in.

  • Call to sign up. A type of two-factor authentication in which a user’s username and a biometric (fingerprint, face, or PIN) reader on their mobile device replace the need for a password.
  • Inputting code into a computer. To make codes that can use with services that need two-factor authentication.
  • Authenticator works with all services that use two-factor authentication and follow the Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) standards.
