The latest technology can be incredibly expensive. The most expensive phones, TVs and yes, gaming laptops can have prices that appear like dream-like to a lot of us. Asus TUF Gaming FX505DY model is among the top models to pay attention at if you want to look at prices that are grounded in reality.

The trade-offs aren't that bad as well: a soft-feeling keyboard, a decent display color and a completely plastic outer construction.

Price

It's the same cost as its predecessor, Dell G3 15 with roughly identical specifications. Amazon has it on purchase for just less than PS700. You can also purchase it through Amazon US.

Design and Design

Asus has executed a clever advertising technique with the TUF Gaming FX505. The exterior is made of made of plastic and does not have the aluminum panels used in other models, however Asus markets this model in our eyes as "tough" instead of "basic".

The claims are based on MIL-STD 810G tests, which are standards that were set for the US military. When you hear this exuberant terminology, you may be interested in looking more deeply into what it signifies. There are a lot of MIL-STD-810G tests to be taken, but consumers will typically have only been tested on only a handful of these tests.

Keyboard and Trackpad

There's an additional option in the keyboard. It's called the Asus TUF Gaming FX505DY features 1.8mm keystrokes, which is significantly more powerful than the standard slim and light model.

Key action is a bit soft however, which means it doesn't have the lightning speed of the most powerful gaming keyboards available. The keyboard isn't a shining star however it's reasonable and is buoyed by a relative lack of flex , thanks to a backplate that stabilizes the keys.

Screen

The Asus TUF Gaming FX505DY comes with the 15.6in screen that has qualities that are somewhat mixed. The highlights of this screen a great choice for gaming indoors and watching movies.

These highlights are the contrast and the screen's finish. The ANSI contrast ratio of 1431:1 provides an Asus TUF Gaming FX505DY with a strong, vivid look and the matte finish keeps light fixtures' reflections from becoming an issue.

Resolution is as a lot of you might have already guessed, 1920 x 1080 pixels. There is no benefit to an laptop with greater pixel density. The entry-level and mid-range GPUs that are available for sale can't handle a lot of gaming at 1440p or 4K without making a huge sacrifice in terms of texture and visual quality.

Performance

There are a variety of different versions of Asus TUF Gaming FX505. The one we have is unique because it uses an AMD instead of it has an Intel CPU. This is an AMD Ryzen 5 3550H, an eight core quad core thread processor that has an initial speed at 1.2GHz and a turbo that can reach 3.7GHz. In January of 2019 it's the first chip to be released.

It's little better than the popular Intel Core i5-8250U tests, scoring scores of 12469 (3938 for each core) in Geekbench 4 and 4091 on PCMark 10. If you've been adamant about dismissing AMD CPUs as inferior to Intel's, then it's time to reconsider your opinion.

It is the Asus TUF Gaming FX505DY is a powerful gaming laptop that has enough power to be replacement for desktops for some users. But, you must be aware of the storage choice you select. The laptop is sold with SSDs and hard drives that have an SSD section to increase the speed of Windows 10. But, if you have to handle a lot of data in a short time, an SSD is always quicker.

Battery life

Laptops such as the Asus Gaming FX505DY are not designed to last for a long time. They enjoy being connected.

The battery has a capacity of 48Wh which is a bit larger than the one that Dell utilizes for their G3 Gaming laptop. We tested the battery by playing a looped movie in 120cd/m light (60 percent of the brightness) The Asus TUF Gaming FX505DY lasted five hours and 20 minutes. This isn't enough for a full-time job however, which is not a surprise for a laptop in this class.

Stamina is very like Asus's claim of six hours of endurance.

Connectivity

The Asus TUF Gaming FX505's connections are unique in two ways. They're all on the left side and leave the right side empty. There's no USB-C connector whatsoever. This is extremely odd.

It's got 3 full-size USB ports. Two of them are compatible with the USB 3.1 Gen1, and one is an old and slow USB 2.0. This is the mouse port and later. It is the Asus TUF Gaming FX505DY features an entire HDMI, 3.5mm headphone/mic socket as well as a large RJ45 Ethernet port.

The laptop doesn't have a memory card slot which is also odd for an laptop of this size.

This set of ports is likely to be better than the speed of a few Thunderbolt USB-C sockets for the majority of us. However, the Asus TUF Gaming FX505DY isn't modernized due to the absence of USB-C.

Verdict

The Asus TUF Gaming FX505DY adds to with the Dell G5 15 and Acer Nitro 15.6 as among the best gaming laptops for under $100. One of the best features has something else that does not make an impression in the final results however: the display.

Although it may not have the greatest intensity or brightness, but it's bright enough for indoor use and the excellent contrast gives it a punch that is comparable to an expensive model. Be sure to look around for the best deal however, because although the Radeon 560X card that's utilized here is reliable however, you'll have better results with Nvidia's low-cost choices.
