We are seeking an individual to join our team to provide high availability security, performance, and performance for over a billion users each month from over 28 locations across six continents. You will be involved in helping us build, develop, and maintain a leading global infrastructure, and sharing our experiences with the world.
You will be part of an extremely small, vertically integrated team, which manages the vast infrastructure. This includes:
- Enhancing the availability and reliability of all services through proactive planning, sound architectural decisions automated processes and rapid responses to problems; - Creating Automattic services as fast as possible for our users through optimization of both client and server-side interactions and working with 3rd party services where necessary;
- Ensuring that our services are safe for our employees and customers by combing proactive monitoring and enforcement with real-time response and data integrity/backups to allow recovery after catastrophes.
- To reduce as much friction between Automattic developers and their goal of shipping software. We respond to questions in minutes, or sometimes minutes.

The Systems Wrangler position might be the right fit for you if:
- Managed large Nginx configurations with advanced routing configuration, load balancer, reliable performance and high availability.
Managed large MySQL/MariaDB installations while maintaining unparalleled performance, uptime, and data integrity.
Have experience running and debugging PHP applications at scale;
Learn the connection of these services with lower-level stacks of the system stacks such as filesystems, network, memory management, kernel internals, etc;
- Experience in the administration and maintenance of web hosting systems that are open to the public.
- Can design, prototype, and maintain solutions to host needs and various issues autonomously
- Possess extreme focus on detail and strive to achieve operational excellence.
- You are available to travel for 2-3 weeks post-COVID each year to meet up in person with your fellow teammates.
