Best Clothing Types for Bleaching Tie-Dye

4 min read

This bleach dye method may be used to make a variety of clothes, including shirts, sweatshirts, and even a tie-dye hoodie. You'll get the greatest results for this project if you wear cotton clothing in dark colors. Although cotton mixes will also work, 100% cotton materials are recommended.

You may always test a tiny area of your clothing with a dot of bleach if you're not sure how it will respond. By doing this, you may predict what color the garment will become without committing to the whole procedure.

What color will it turn?

It's difficult to predict exactly what color the bleach solution will make your hoodie. The effects of a color shift might occasionally be really unexpected!

I suggest testing a tiny, discrete corner of the cloth to determine the final color of your hoodie before you dye it. Apply a tiny bit of bleach to the inside of the waist or sleeve cuffs to do this. AhegaoHoodie

Black sweatshirts frequently turn crimson, faded orange, or brown. Navy shirts can also fade to a reddish-orange color. Shirts that are maroon and purple turn pink. The majority of lighter blue shirts will also become white.

Here are a few crucial things to keep in mind while working with a potent chemical like bleach.

When bleach dying, put on rubber gloves to protect your hands.
Always keep in mind that bleach is a potent chemical and that its vapors might be hazardous. Therefore, if possible, work outside or in a well-ventilated space.
Don't be afraid to get bleach on your old clothes.

Prepare your Shirt for Dyeing

Make sure your clothing is clean before beginning the job.

You can begin with a dry shirt or one that is just a little damp. Try lightly spraying it with water using a spray bottle. (I started with a dry shirt in the pictures up top.)

The garment should then be tied in your preferred tie-dye design. Rubber bands may be used to tie up your shirt in any pattern of your choice, including a spiral, a bullseye, and more. Ahegao Faces

Bleach Tie-Dye Patterns

I applied the Crumple Tie Dye method to my sweater. I folded the sweatshirt up a little bit haphazardly and used lots of elastic bands to hold the folds in place.

Your shirt's tied-up areas will maintain their original black color, but the bleach will cause the exposed cloth to lighten in color.

So, knot it firmly if you don't want as much of the garment to be bleached. Tie it loosely if you want more of the garment to be bleached.

If you want the wavy Tie-Dye Spiral appearance, squeeze a tiny portion of cloth in the shirt's center and twist it until it forms a tight spiral. Use 3 rubber bands to keep it in place. Cross the rubber bands across the center point to form six wedge-shaped forms.

Apply the Bleach

Here are several various approaches to using bleach.

Fill a plastic bucket with a bleach-to-water solution using the bucket method. Submerge the sweater that has been knotted in the bucket. In order to witness a color change, give the garment around 10 minutes in the bleach. Ahegao irl

Spray or Squeeze container Method: Pour one part bleach to one part water into a spray or squeeze container. Spray the bleach solution over your clothing's exposed fabric. Depending on how drastic you want the color change to be, you can use more or less bleach.
