Cleanser vs Face wash - What is the difference?
3 min read

There are many types of cleansing products and many of them are made specifically to cleanse the face. From face masks to face washes, there are quite a few options to choose from when it comes to face cleansing. If you’re wondering what type of cleansing product you should use, and whether one cleanser is better than the other, then the following post may help you find the right cleansing solution.

When cleaning the face, there is a difference between a face wash and a cleanser. A face wash, like a body wash, is meant to be used more like a hand wash and should be used a few times in the shower. A cleanser is meant to be used more often to remove impurities from your face. A cleanser is often a product formulated to foam, and have a thicker consistency.

Cleanser

Cleansers are a special type of cleansing product that should be used more often to remove impurities. Cleansers are generally designed to foam, and to remove makeup, dirt and grime, and sweat. Lotus gentle face cleanser can also be effective at removing oil from your face.

Lotus gentle face cleanser removes dirt, grease, oil, and other debris from the skin and face using water, emulsifying agents, and cleansers. They are either a "liquid cleanser" which is more liquid and more suitable for normal use as part of a shower, or they are “cream” or “gel” cleansers which are better suited to scrubbing and can be used as a bath or shower or wash the hair.

Face washes

Face washes are designed to wash away dirt and grime, and excess moisture from your face. A face wash should not be used as a replacement for a normal skin cleanser but should be used as a supplement.

The most effective ingredients for cleansing your face, or any skin area for that matter, are oils and emollients. Water is not a good skin cleanser as it does not penetrate the skin as quickly as an oil and is generally too weak to remove even sticky and greasy types of skin contaminants. Soaps and detergents are very good skin cleansers and make the water we use for washing even better for skin cleansing.

What is the difference between a face wash and a cleanser?

The main difference between a face wash and a cleanser is that cleansers are formulated to remove impurities from the face. Cleansers generally are used more frequently and are intended to be used as a replacement for a normal skin cleanser.

Face washes have the same purpose as cleansers, but in addition to their purpose as cleansing products, face washes are often designed to hydrate the face. This means that you should use a face wash in the shower to wash away the dirt and excess water on your face.

Today we live in an age where there is a great deal of advertising pushing both face washing and body washing as the most efficient means of eliminating dirt and grime and keeping ourselves clean and germ-free. Indeed there is now a huge range of cleansers available for the face and body, such as shower gel, shower cream, and body wash.
