Common Types of Sports Injuries Suffered By Athletes-

Here are some comments that are related to sports injuries that can prove detrimental to an athlete's career

Concussion

A heavy blow on the head can cause a concussion. An athlete who had suffered a concussion on the field will generally look confused, have problems speaking, will be sensitive to bright lights, will take time to to recoup and answer questions.. He or she may also suffer from headache, nausea, dizziness and such other physical complaints. The athlete should immediately receive medical treatment through physician who specializes in concussion. He or she should decide to participate in sports only after complete recovery and getting the approval of trained physician.

Shin Splints

Soccer players are likely to suffer from shin splints as it involves a great deal of running, which puts a huge amount of pressure on the shins. Soccer players often complain of lower leg bone pains, and they are often treated in advance before the start of any football season.

Hamstring Strain

Remember when athletes’ complaints of cramps or muscle pull, it means that they are seriously suffering from a hamstring strain. It occurs when the hamstring muscles at the back of your thigh experiences strain. This kind of sports injury causes ugly bruises on the knee and the thigh. Although stretching is important, many often use the wrong stretching techniques which put a strain on these hamstring muscles. So, remember that during the next time if you stretch the muscle, do it right.

Patellofemoral Syndrome

A knee injury of patellofemoral syndrome is the most common type of sports injuries. When you land on your knees or slip and end up falling on your knees, you will hurt your knees. It causes the knees to swell and ultimately results in muscle imbalance. While the swelling is bad in itself, it gets far worse later due to the two primary muscles getting imbalanced. These two muscles play a significant role in keeping the kneecap intact inside the groove and when it is imbalanced the kneecap shifts from its original place.

Hip Flexor Strain

Individuals who engage in sprinting and running tend to suffer from hip flexor strains. It is not just athletes who tend to suffer from it; people who mostly spend their day sitting on the work desk also suffer from it. The muscles on the upper part region of your thigh on the sides are called hip flexor muscles. Their primary function is to assist you in moving your legs and pulling your knee up to your waist. When these muscles are strained, you develop bruises in the upper region of your thigh and groin area. You will find it hard to climb in and out of a car, and also in climbing up the stairs. Running will also cause a lot of strain on your legs.

Sciatica

You can quickly come to the conclusion that you are suffering from sciatica if you have pain in the back which travels all the way down the back of your leg to your feet. This is often caused either by a pinched nerve or a bulging disc problem. Along with the pain, you may also sometimes experience numbness or a tingling sensation in your leg.

Conclusion

Usually, a bit of rest and icing can alleviate the pain, but if the pain persists and bruises grow darker, you need to seek medical treatment immediately.
