By India Today Sports Desk: England pacer Mark Wood started off his Indian Premier League 2023 campaign with a match-winning spell of 5/14 against Delhi Capitals. Wood ran through the Delhi top-order with sheer pace, despite facing difficulty in landing during his bowling stride in the early parts of the game. This was the pacer's only second game in the Indian Premier League, after having skipped the 2022 edition due to elbow injury.

Wood spoke after the match and credited KL Rahul and Morne Morkel for his exploits against David Warner's Delhi Capitals and said that they kept things pretty easy for him in the LSG camp.

“KL (Rahul) tried to keep things simple for me and the planning with Morne helped me. He has been really good with me, just try to do similar with what I do for England,” Wood said after the game.

“Last time I was here, I played for CSK and it didn’t go quite well. So I wanted to try to make an impact this time and I’m delighted that it’s gone well today," Wood had content in his voice.

The pacer spoke about the difficulties he faced during bowling and said that he was relieved to have bowled in rhythm on April 1.

“I felt good for a little period of time actually. You could see the dew on the grass and it affected me. I fall even at the best of times. I’m just pleased today that I managed to get some rhythm in and take some wickets," Mark Wood concluded.

Wood's 147kmph thunderbolt got the best of both Prithvi Shaw and Mitchell Marsh, who have been in form coming into the tournament. If fit, Wood is expected to be one of the key players for Lucknow Super Giants this season.
