One commonly accepted advice that I often find myself at odds with is the idea that success is solely contingent on hard work. While diligence undeniably plays a crucial role, I firmly believe that genuine success demands more than sheer effort. In my experience, I conceptualize success through a framework I've developed known as RPP™ (Results, Purpose, Planning). This framework not only emphasizes setting clear objectives and a vision (Results), but also involves a profound exploration of one's underlying purpose (Purpose), followed by the strategic development of plans to navigate the most efficient route toward those goals (Planning). Effective prioritization is also key—identifying which tasks will yield the greatest impact and giving them precedence. Simply exerting effort without this strategic mindset and prioritization can lead to burnout and inefficiency. Hence, I advocate for a more comprehensive approach that integrates hard work with SMART strategic planning and prioritization as indispensable elements for attaining success.
What's a piece of traditional advice you find yourself at odds with?
When it comes to our business, Sami Toussi International, there's a story worth sharing—a narrative born from personal struggles and transformative moments that paved the way to where we stand today. My journey began amidst the challenges of my upbringing, navigating a path that seemed preordained—prioritizing academic excellence, ambition, and conformity. Graduating from UCLA, I entered a corporate landscape dominated by men, eventually finding myself in Dubai at 25, leading a global team and attending high-stakes board meetings. Yet, internally, I felt adrift, haunted by the realization that this wasn't my true calling but rather a life driven by external validation and societal norms.
The tipping point arrived when the toll on my physical and mental well-being became undeniable. It was a pivotal moment of reckoning—I couldn't continue sacrificing my authenticity for the illusion of success dictated by others.
Thus, I embarked on a journey of self-reinvention, hitting pause on the narrative I had been living to craft a new one anchored in purpose and genuine fulfillment. Drawing upon years of entrepreneurial experience, project management expertise, and a profound understanding of human behavior, coupled with rigorous coaching training and thousands of hours dedicated to guiding others, I found myself embracing my true passion.
