Dr. Kumar: From Merrillville High School to Doctors of Urology I was always interested in medicine, says Dr. Kumar of his early interest in becoming a doctor. After graduating from Merrillville High School, Dr. Kumar went on to pursue his undergraduate degree at the University of Southern Indiana and ultimately graduated with a BS in Biology with a minor in business administration from USI in 2003.
Personal background:
Born and raised in Crown Point, Dr. Kumar always knew he wanted to pursue a career in the medical field. After completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Southern Indiana, he decided to specialize in urology. He is now one of the doctors of urology at a local hospital. Dr. Kumar is passionate about his work and enjoys helping others.
Medical school:
Dr. Kumar went to medical school to become a doctor of urology, which is a branch of medicine that deals with the urinary tract and male reproductive organs. Growing up, he always had an interest in science and helping others, so becoming a doctor was the perfect way to combine his two passions. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Southern Indiana before attending medical school at Indiana University. During his time in medical school, he became interested in urology after completing rotations in various specialty areas. After graduation, he completed a residency in urology at Indiana University before joining Doctors of Urology in Crown Point, IN.
Becoming a doctor:
It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to become a doctor. After completing high school, Dr. Kumar attended the University of Southern Indiana where she studied biology and minored in business administration. After graduating from college, she attended medical school and completed her residency in urology. Becoming a doctor is a long and difficult process, but it is so rewarding to be able to help people and make a difference in their lives.
Owning his own practice:
Dr. Kumar always knew he wanted to be a doctor, but it was his experiences as a young man in Crown Point, IN that made him want to pursue a career in urology. Dr. Kumar graduated from Merrillville High School before going on to earn his degree in Biology from the University of Southern Indiana. He then completed his residency at the IU School of Medicine and fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. In 2014, Dr. Kumar started his own practice, Midwest Urology Specialists, with locations in Crown Point and Merrillville. Today, he is one of the leading urologists in the region and is passionate about providing quality care for his patients.
Words of wisdom for young professionals:
I would advise young professionals just starting out to always be mindful of their surroundings and the people they associate with, says Dr. Kumar. You never know who may have an opportunity or connection that can help you further your career. It's also important to be proactive and stay up-to-date on the latest industry news and trends. Read trade publications, attend conferences, and network, network, network! And finally, Dr. Kumar urges young professionals to never give up on your dreams—if you work hard and stay focused, anything is possible.
