Orthopedic screws have spiral threads along their shaft that create torsional force when applied. The force is then converted into compression to fix fractured fragments in place.

The bone screw is a cylinder-shaped instrument that has three components:
Head

Shaft

Titanium

Bioabsorbable Screws
The materials used to manufacture bioabsorbable screws are polyglycolic acid, poly-L-lactic acid, and polylactic acid. These screws get absorbed in the body over time and hence, there is no need to remove them after the fracture has healed.
