Factors to Consider When Selecting an Ewheels Scooter

Factors to Consider When Selecting an Ewheels Scooter
7 min read

If you have been on the lookout for a mobility device, chances are you have come across the name EWheels. Well, that is not too surprising given that EWheels is one of the largest producers of electric mobility scooters and one of the brands of choice on Scootaround, with their range of vehicles designed for a whole host of purposes and activities. The company was founded in the US and has a continued desire to provide the best in class features in terms of look and feel and a robust construction.

A lot of brands have popped up in the mobility and accessibility vehicular sectors but what make Ewheels scooters stand out are their design features that are not far off from a conventional road vehicle. Having said that, the company is always willing to try a different approach. This is most evident in the design of their model, Ewheels EW 54, which is the perfect example of a versatile yet distinct model.

By looking at some of Ewheels’ models, we are going to get an insight into the technical aspects of their design which can easily slip through the cracks when selecting the right model. We will also learn about the variety of the uses they can serve and which line of models by this prominent brand is the correct choice for you.

Ewheels EW 54

The EW 54 features a canopy and a windshield, which offer protection from the elements and make it visually eccentric. This vehicle has four wheels that give it plenty of grip on dirt and gravel surfaces. The 54 also has a digital dashboard on the front, stereo speakers and a comfortable seat on par with those found in regular vehicles. It can easily be operated by the elderly or the differently abled, and features a foot pedal.

Key highlights:

  1. Load-bearing capacity of 500 pounds
  2. The EW 54 also has a driving range of 43 miles on a single full charge
  3. Top speed of 15 mph
  4. A 5”ground clearance helps it overcome curbs and bumps with ease
  5. Shock absorbers on both front and rear ends

Having taken a look at one of Ewheels’ most unusual models, let’s take a closer look at a 3-wheeled mobility scooter, the EW 36.

Ewheels EW 36

Designed to be used for recreational purposes, this 3-wheeled mobility scooter can be used for more than its intended uses. Because of its safety features such as hydraulic disk brakes on its rear end, it is quite clear that the brand have made a conscious choice to make it useful for accessibility purposes. There is also an inbuilt brake assist system that activates when the scooter travels at anywhere between 7 to 10 mph and this relaxes the braking system by lowering the speed of the EW 36.

As with many of Ewheels scooters, thoughts have been put into the aesthetics, with multiple eye-catching colors and an Aluminum wheel rim design.

Key highlights:

  1. A driving range of 43 miles on a single full charge
  2. 2. Top speed of 13 mph
  3. 4”ground clearance is more than capable of managing curbs with rear mounted shock absorbers
  4. Comfortable reclining seat complete with armrests and a head rest, with a capacity of 350 pounds of load to be carried
  5. The EW 36 is not designed to be folded or disassembled, and comes completely ready to be used straight out of the box

The above two models highlight the versatility of Ewheels mobility scooters. Just like many other models of Ewheels scooters like the EW 46, EW 72 and the ultra-sporty EW 14, these scooters have the features to tackle outside environments and can even be used for urban travel. If this the primary factor for you to consider before buying a mobility vehicle, then the aforementioned specifications for each of the models should help you decide which one is best for you. We also recommend checking all the Ewheels models out yourself and going through the detailed low down of the specifications so as to find what’s perfect for your needs.

Ewheels have gained quite a reputation through the likes of the models prescribed above; however, this does not mean the company haven’t been working on models that cater to the needs of the few. Ewheels Medical, a subsidiary of Ewheels, has been set up in the year 2018 that produces electric mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs. The electric mobility scooters made for medical purposes carry the letter ‘M’ in their model names, examples of this being the EW-M34 and EW-M35.

Both of these models have recently arrived on the Scootaround website, and as mentioned before, are entirely different in their conception and use case. They feature lightweight modular designs that can be folded or dismantled for easy storage in car trunks. These models are also not designed for urban or outdoor uses and have much smaller wheels, low ground clearances and less maximum speeds. The maximum distance that these models can travel on a single full charge is also relatively less since their batteries are meant to be smaller in capacity.

Let’s have a quick glance at these two models for a better understanding of what this class of mobility scooters are made for:

EW-M35 Key specifications:

  1. Load capacity of 300 pounds
  2. Folds and disassembles into 5 parts, the heaviest of which is just 30 pounds
  3. Maximum range of 9 miles on a single full charge and maximum speed of 4 mph.
  4. Turning radius of 49” - A key factor to consider for these medical class of mobility scooters is the small turning radius, which allows them to be moved about in tight spaces
  5. Safety is also a huge consideration in these scooters, with a reinforced frame, non-slip floor deck, puncture-proof tires and electromagnetic brakes for improved stopping

The specifications of the EW-M34 are largely the same, with only slight variations which must be paid attention to when making the purchase; however, these factors are all designed for accessibility and safe manoeuvrability.

Conclusion:

By looking at some of Ewheels’ models, our aim is to draw attention to the various design features and technical specifications that need to be considered when choosing an Ewheels mobility scooter. We have learnt how versatile the formerly described models are and how Ewheels have tried to expand into domains of medical care and accessibility by introducing a whole other line of products which have just arrived on Scootaround.
