Shree Jagannath is an old and respected Hindu temple in Puri, Odisha. The temple is one of Hindus' Char Dham pilgrimage site and dedicated to Lord Jagannath - a form Lord Vishnu. It has an interesting history, and is of cultural importance. The Shree Jagannath temple is famous for many things.

  1. This temple's architecture is unique. It is one of India's tallest temples because the main spire (called the "Shikhara") measures 58 metres high.

  7. Ananda Bazaar is the temple's largest kitchen in the entire world. The temple feeds many thousands of people every day. It is called the "Ananda Bazaar" (the largest kitchen in the world).

  8. Nilachala Bhakta Niwas : A guesthouse run by the temple's administration, the Nilachala Bhakta Niwas is located in the complex.

  9. Nabakalebara : Nabakalebara, a ritual of great importance that takes place every 12 to 19 years is when deities are changed from their wooden forms. The event attracts millions of followers from all over the world.

  10. Temple's maritime heritage: It is said that merchants and sailors who set out on voyages would pray to Lord Jagannath to ensure a safe trip.

Shree Jagannath continues to attract devotees from around the world. The temple's historical importance, unique festivals and rituals make it a religious icon in India.
