If you want to know how you can find out the fraction of a given number, this article will help you to know that. As you scroll down, you will get details of the methods and the steps to do that.

Now, we just take the example of finding what is the value of 0.125 as a fraction. For this, we will just follow simple three steps. These steps are listed below which are:

  1. Firstly, we have to write 0.125 in the form of a simple fraction ie. 0.125/1.
  2. Now, both the numerator and denominator of this simple fraction must be multiplied by 10 for every number present after the decimal point. As here it's three so we will write it as- 0.125*1000/1*1000 which will give us 125/1000.
  3. After this, we just need to reduce the obtained fraction above by dividing it by its multiples or common factor.
  4. At last on dividing, 125/1000 will become ⅛.

And so the final result and value we get on converting 0.125 as a fraction comes out to be ⅛.

What exactly is a Fraction?

In mathematics, fraction is basically defined as a method or a way to represent a portion of a whole thing or it represents the equal parts of a whole. A fraction mainly consists of two parts. These parts are numerator and denominator. The above number is called the numerator whereas the number below is called denominator. The numerator defines the number of parts that are taken whereas the denominator defines the total number of parts in a whole.

For eg. there is a fraction 25/100. In this 25 is the numerator and denominator is 100 as 25 is a part of 100.

If we now take a real-life example, let us consider there is a watermelon which is divided into 6 equal parts. So then each part of it will be represented as ⅙ of the whole watermelon.

Conclusion

After knowing what exactly a fraction is and how we can convert a decimal number into a fraction, we can conclude that the final value for 0.125 as a fraction comes out to be 1/8. It's actually very easy to calculate and find out the fraction of any given decimal number by following the above steps and the right method.
