Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson had a record-setting day at the NFL Scouting Combine on Saturday, making it clear that he's one of the sportiest players - quarterbacks or otherwise - in the draft year class. 2023.
During his jump drills, Richardson scored a 129-inch wide jump, followed by a 40.5-inch tall vertical jump, both quarterback records for the scouting complex.
He also sprinted 4.44 seconds in his first 40-yard sprint attempt.
While these drills do not reproduce the reality of the actual NFL game, they serve their purpose of providing a yardstick for promising sportsmanship. Richardson is an elite athlete for his position. And he possesses a rocket launcher arm to get through anything.
Even with limited college experience -- only 393 passes in Gainesville; 54 percent completions -- his record is more than enough for NFL coaches and the main office to dream of. His performance this weekend in Indianapolis only strengthens his chances of going through in the first half of the first round that takes place at the end of April. Houston, Indianapolis, Carolina, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Detroit, Seattle and Washington are just a few of the teams that can incorporate Richardson's services.
It's worth asking if Richardson's performance in the combined match could overtake him against CJ Stroud (Ohio State) and/or Will Levis (Kentucky), although Bryce Young (Alabama) would probably still be. considered the favorite to become the league's first quarterback. on board on Day 1.
