Achieving “The Double Carbon" targets and establishing a novel electric power system are pivotal in breaking new ground in the construction of an innovative energy framework. In 2021, the State Grid Corporation of China distinguished Fujian as one of three provincial-level exemplars in pioneering electrical system infrastructures.

Over the past two years, State Grid Fuzhou Power Supply Company has been committed to realizing the "Three Majors and Three Leads" initiative (establishing a major Southeastern hub for clean energy, a high-level distribution network platform, and a vast 'Digital Fujian Electricity' ecosystem, while achieving leadership in clean development, safety and stability, and efficiency and profitability). This endeavor targets the creation of a provincial model electric grid of high-quality development, propelling the construction of an innovative power system's provincial demonstration zone, thereby transforming Fujian's resource strengths into developmental advantages.

Establishing a 'Quadrilateral Interconnection' Hub to Bolster the Efficient Utilization of Clean Energy.

Currently, as Fujian continues to intensify the development of its ecological province, within the new type of power system, electricity generated from non-fossil sources such as hydro, wind, and solar is gradually becoming the mainstay of energy production.

Unlike coal, which can be transported over long distances with ease, resources like water, wind, and solar energy must be converted into electricity close to their source, then delivered to power load centers via the electrical grid. This dynamic underscores the importance of promoting interprovincial and interregional power transmission "interconnections" and provincial main grid framework "enhancements," thereby elevating the capability for strategic allocation of electric resources.

Positioned at the forefront of integrative development across the Straits, Fujian connects the Yangtze River Delta to the north, links with Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao to the south, opens to the central Chinese hinterland to the west, and reaches out to the treasured island of Taiwan to the east, standing as a confluence point in the synergistic growth of multiple regions. The province's endeavor to construct a novel electric power system is endowed with unique and substantial advantages.

Blessed with superior clean energy endowments, Fujian boasts abundant and substantial offshore wind energy resources, with a theoretical reserve exceeding 120 million kilowatts. Furthermore, the province's coastal locations present a distinct advantage for nuclear power plant sites, with a projected feasible installed capacity reaching 33 million kilowatts.

Empowered by Digital Means, Crafting a High-Energy-Level Distribution Network.

If the main grid is likened to the "aorta," then the distribution network connecting thousands of households equates to the "capillaries."

In the construction of the innovative electric power system, State Grid Fuzhou Power Supply Company is crafting a high-energy-level distribution network characterized by "high reliability in power supply, high aggregation of sources and loads, high integration of information, and high-quality services." This transformation elevates the distribution network to a high-energy hub for energy allocation and a superior platform for energy services.

Taking the example of Xiamen in Fujian, this year, State Grid Fuzhou Power Supply Company initiated 210 projects under the new electric power system in the city, setting a paradigm for urban high-energy-level distribution network construction. With no coal combustion or physical plant facilities, the "virtual power plant" platform is lauded as the "supreme brain" of the smart grid. On June 7th, Fujian's first "virtual power plant" platform commenced its trial run in Xiamen.

The "virtual power plant" does not generate electricity itself. Instead, it integrates a multitude of scattered, adjustable power resources within the grid. During peak electricity consumption, it employs digital means for unified dispatch, aggregating surplus power from distributed sources to feed into the grid, thereby ensuring stable grid operation during high-demand periods.

Currently, the Xiamen "virtual power plant" platform has consolidated grid resources from over 600 participating entities, encompassing approximately 400,000 kilowatts of adjustable resources, equivalent to the electrical load of more than 60,000 households.

Spearheading "Digital Fujian Electricity," Shaping a New Paradigm of Intelligent Grids.

Fujian, the cradle of thought and the genesis of practice for digital China, leverages its unique strengths in the realm of digital development. State Grid Fuzhou Power Supply Company is advancing the fusion of digital and energy technologies, creating a vast "Digital Fujian Electricity" ecosystem. This construct envisions a comprehensively interconnected, data-driven, lean and agile, open and diverse digital grid and corporate landscape, guiding enterprise transformation and upgrading through groundbreaking digital achievements.

An official from State Grid Fuzhou Power Supply Company explained that nearly 20,000 equipment operations are conducted annually on the Fujian grid. In the past, initiating or ceasing power on a 110-kilovolt line required approximately 30 to 60 minutes, with operators and supervisors incessantly engaged in time-consuming and laborious tasks such as issuing commands, reciting procedures, handling operations, and conducting on-site inspections.

In response, State Grid Fuzhou Power Supply Company harnessed "Artificial Intelligence + Industrial Internet of Things" technologies to develop an intelligent cloud platform for grid operations, pioneering a new model of "one-click streamlined control" for electrical networks. It was the first within the State Grid Corporation of China to achieve comprehensive coverage of "one-click streamlined control" at 110-kilovolt substations and above.

Now, with a simple click of the "one-click streamlined control" button, grid monitors can activate a process that, in under five minutes, enables functionalities like automatic generation of operation tickets, one-click initiation of operational steps, and main station system cross-verification for error prevention. This advancement has reduced equipment operation time from "hour-level" to "minute-level," significantly enhancing the reliability of the power supply.

The integration of intelligence is one of the fundamental characteristics of the new-type electric power system. Advanced digital information technologies such as cloud computing, big data, the Internet of Things, mobile internet, and artificial intelligence are extensively employed across all aspects of the electric power system.
