GUIDE TO MAINTAINING YOUR HUMAN HAIR WIG

Just as it is for many other products, maintaining a human hair wig is very important. Maintenance is a vital part of keeping your human hair wig clean, shiny, and in good condition. Good wig maintenance can also extend its lifespan.

GUIDE TO MAINTAINING YOUR HUMAN HAIR WIG

Wigs have been around for many years and they have been used by both men and women. In the past, wigs were made from goat and horse hair. Later, synthetic fiber was used in manufacturing wigs. As expected though, there were many downsides to those wigs; they were smelly (from the goat hair), clumpy, and hard to maintain.

Today, manufacturers have perfected the art of making wigs using actual human hair. The human hair is collected carefully so that the cuticles are intact. Strands are woven by hand into a stretchable cap, which is then worn over the head. The hairs are placed evenly so that the cuticles and strands align neatly and concisely. These human hair wigs are specially made for women

People wear wigs for many reasons; to hide baldness, to avoid damage to their natural hair, as a protective especially for weak hair, or just to switch out hairstyles that could otherwise not be achieved with natural hair. In some cases, clip-on hair pieces for thin hair work as a great alternative to whole wigs.

GUIDE TO MAINTAINING YOUR HUMAN HAIR WIG

This article will list some things you can do to care for your human hair wig or clip-on hair piece.

  • Washing:

Washing is an essential part of keeping your wig clean. While washing, steer clear of regular shampoos and conditioners, as they can strip the wig of its natural oils and cause damage. Instead, use a sulfate-free, gentle shampoo and conditioner designed for human hair wigs. Be sure to use lukewarm water and a small amount of the recommended shampoo for washing. After that, rinse the wig thoroughly with cool water until all shampoo is removed.

  • Conditioning:

Just as it is with your natural hair, conditioning your wig is very important. After washing your wig carefully, apply a small amount of the recommended conditioner to the wig while avoiding the roots or the cap area. Gently distribute the conditioner through the hair with your fingers. Let the conditioner sit for a few minutes, then rinse the wig thoroughly with cool water until all conditioner is removed.

  • Drying:

It is best to let the wig dry naturally rather than blow it out. Using a clean and soft towel, gently blot or pat the wig to remove excess water. Do not rub or wring it. You can then place the wig on a wig stand or a mannequin head to maintain its shape while it dries. Gently use a wide-toothed comb or a wig brush designed for detangling to avoid hair breakage. Allow the wig to air dry; avoid exposing it to direct sunlight or high heat sources, as excessive heat can damage the hair.

  • Storage:

For most people, wigs are not worn throughout. Even people who wear wigs throughout get more than one wig to allow switching. So, when not in use, it is vital to store your wig properly. Use a wig stand or a breathable storage bag to help maintain its shape. As stated before, extreme temperatures and direct sunlight can damage the wig; store it in a cool place.

Regular maintenance and gentle care are key to keeping your human hair wig looking its best. You could consult specialists on ‘everything hair’ like Ecstasy Styles for advice on what will work best for you.
