How a Bopp Film is Made?

Creating a movie is a great art to learn. It is the only way to tell a story that would make people want to watch it. In this article, we will explore how a Bopp film is created. We will discuss the process parameters, the Corona treatment, the Tenter-frame process and the Water-carry-over.

Process parameters

Various authors have studied the dielectric properties of BOPP capacitor films. These studies have been related to their composition, morphological features, and processing methods. This article will focus on the effects of some specific manufacturing parameters on the breakdown performance of capacitor grade bopp.

The first step in the manufacturing process of bopp film is determining the width of the film. This is mainly influenced by the production plan. In addition, the thickness of the film is also an important parameter. It can be attributed to the lamellar thickening.

The second step in the process is to coextrude the layers together. This increases the barrier property of the film. The thickness is also enlarged. This is done to improve the windability of the film during metallization. The film is then sealed with a heat-sealable material. The sealing layer is often a random copolymer with 3-7% ethylene. This coating has the advantage of lower melting point and can be recycled.

Tenter-frame process

Several types of processes are used to manufacture biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films. Two of the more common methods include the Double Bubble and Tenter Frame process.

The most widely accepted method is the double bubble process. It is based on an extruding tube forty to fifty times thicker than the film. The film is then stretched in all directions simultaneously, resulting in a uniquely balanced film structure. Unlike the other two processes, this is a challenging technique to control, which leads to lower output rates.

In the tenter frame process, the cast sheet is first processed sequentially. After the primary film is preheated to a temperature above the softening point, it is then stretched in both machine and transverse directions. This helps to control orientation and maintain a uniform temperature.

Coextrusion

Using a coextrusion technique, polypropylene is coextruded with sealant resin to create a biaxially oriented sheet. The resulting film has a unique seal strength and barrier properties. It can be used for a wide variety of packaging applications.

Typically, the film is produced on a multi-layer extrusion line. The number of layers can range from three to five. The outer layer is often optimized for good printability. The inner layer is often used as a sealing layer. The thickness of the film can range from 10 to 70 mm.

A microcellular foam structure is incorporated into the film to provide thermal insulation and mechanical properties. This can improve weight, reduce material costs, and increase the strength of the film. When used beneath a beverage lid, this can increase the seal.

Orientation

Orientation of BOPP film is a process that converts plastic resin pellets into valuable packaging films. The process is designed to enhance the mechanical properties of the film. This allows for thinner films, lighter wall sections, and cost savings.

The first step of the process is to extrude a slurry of resin powder and pigments. The powder is then mixed with additives and fed to the extruder. During this step, the polymer is chilled rapidly to a biaxially oriented state. Then the bopp film is wound up on a roll.

Afterwards, the film is quenched in water. The film is then heat-set to provide dimensional stability.

Corona treatment

During corona treatment, the surface layer of a polymer film is altered. This modification increases the wettability of the material and also improves its chemical connectivity to liquids.

Corona treating can be applied to foils, tapes, and paper. This technique has been used in the medical, automotive, and aerospace industries. In addition to increasing the adhesive capability of a material, it can also be used to remove contaminants and oxidize the bopp material film's surface.

When using a corona treater, you are essentially operating a capacitor. The corona treater is a piece of equipment that consists of two parts: the power source and the treater station.

Water-carry-over

Whether you are looking for a promotional tool for your business or just want to provide a water-carry-over seal on your food product, the right choice of flexible packaging film can help. However, before choosing a film, you need to understand how it is made. There are several different processes, each with their own advantages and disadvantages.

The most common processes are tubular and tenter frame. In either of these processes, a thick plastic sheet is stretched in two directions. This causes the polymer to crystallize, which results in a specific property.

During production, the film is usually split into tapes before stretching. It is then processed with a special process. This can include the use of a stabilizer to eliminate water carry-over.
