OptiFine can be used in conjunction with Minecraft Forge, or separately from it. OptiFine allows you to optimize Minecraft for your computer and also alter the graphics.

OptiFine, a multi-faceted program that many "Minecraft", players appreciate, is something they cannot live without, especially when playing on a computer with less power. It's a "Minecraft: Java Edition” optimizer that allows computers with less memory or less powerful graphics cards to run the game more fluidly.

OptiFine gives you access to a variety of texture packs and HD shadingrs to make your game look amazing. There are also some brand new gameplay mechanics like the "OptiFine Zoom"

While it differs from mods in the way it is installed and runs, it is similar in that it changes the appearance and performance of the game.

OptiFine can be installed in two ways, depending on whether you intend to integrate it with other mods.

Important: OptiFine can only be used with "Minecraft Java Edition" like most modifications. There's no official version of OptiFine available for "Minecraft: Bedrock Edition."

You can find out more about the differences between "Java" and "Bedrock" by checking out our article "'Minecraft Java' vs. "Bedrock:" A comprehensive breakdown of Minecraft's two major versions and which one you should buy."

How do I install and run OptiFine in 'Minecraft' without mods

1. In a web browser of your choice, go to the OptiFine downloads page. If you don't have the most current version of "Minecraft," click "Show all versions" to find and select the version you're running.

2. Click "Download" next to the version of OptiFine you'd like. If you're taken to an advertisement break page, click "Skip" in top-right corner.

3. Click "Download" after you've been redirected to the OptiFine download and save it wherever you can find it. You might see an alert about your download on your browser or computer, which you can safely ignore.

4. Browse to the downloaded OptiFine file that is an executable .jar file. Double-click on the file to open the installer and click "Install." Then you should see a message saying OptiFine has been installed successfully.

5. Start your Minecraft Launcher and, in the drop-down menu to the left of the "Play" button, make sure that "OptiFine" is selected. Once you've got it then click "Play."

6. When "Minecraft" starts, click "Options ..." from the main menu, and then "Video Settings." If you see additional options such as "Shaders," details, and "Animations", it will indicate that the OptiFine file download was successful.

How do I install and run OptiFine to work with 'Minecraft' mods

1. Follow the first three steps to download OptiFine as shown above. If you don't have it, download Minecraft Forge as well. Follow our guide.

2. Open the Minecraft Launcher app.

3. In the drop-down menu next to the green play button, select "forge" then click "Play" to begin the launch.

4. The Minecraft main menu will show the "Mods" option. Select it and then click "Open mods directory." Java will open the mods folder created by Forge.

5. Drag and drop the .jar OptiFine file that you downloaded into the mods folder.

6. Close "Minecraft" then relaunch it. This time, you'll be running the Forge installation version. OptiFine has been incorporated in Forge.

7. You can verify that it's been installed correctly the same way as before: by going to the main menu and selecting "Options ..." then "Video Settings." If you see additional options like "Shaders," "Details," and "Animations," then OptiFine is installed.

How to get started using OptiFine

OptiFine offers a wealth of new options and settings to your game, and it can be confusing to begin. These are some of the most basic features.

The more frames you can make per second

OptiFine will tell you which settings are available and which one will speed up your game by hovering your cursor over them.

The suggestions from OptiFine might not be right for your setup or computer. Try them all and see what works, and what you like.

For a quick FPS boost, choose "All OFF" in the "Animation Settings" section. You don't have to make a radical change but you can perform an experiment in a controlled manner and only enable one setting at a time. Then, observe how the game performs.

You can press "F3" on PC, or "fn + F3" on Mac to open and track your FPS speed and other metrics when playing.

Add shader packs

Shader packs alter the way lighting functions in your "Minecraft" world. That might not sound like much at first, but once you start using these shaders, you'll quickly see how big a difference they can make.

After downloading a shader pack start Minecraft and select "Options," Video Settings and Shaders. Click "Shaders Folder" at the end of the shaders menu.

This will open the new folder on your computer. Move the pack you downloaded into this folder, and then restart "Minecraft."

After it restarts the shaders of the new version will be visible in the "Shaders” menu.

Optifine zoom

OptiFine is a random addition that lets you zoom into your camera as you play. This is useful to see things which are far away without risking your life or life by being too close.
